Don Silsbe Posted December 7, 2024 Author Report Posted December 7, 2024 Well, it was dark, when I took that photo. Here’s a daytime version. Still sanding and prepping. The cold temperatures are slowing me down. Epoxy and fairing compound are taking forever to cure. I’m closing in the top of the lazarette. The old hatch leaked, and it looked its age. This way I can have a flat surface for charts. Access will be from the vertical surface. The hole is cut, as you can see. In the shop, I’m epoxy coating the hatch ring and hatch, along with the panel to fill in the top. I did get the rub rail prepped, and one coat of varnish applied. Quote

Don Silsbe Posted December 21, 2024 Author Report Posted December 21, 2024 Good news! I got the deck completely primed and painted before we headed north for the holidays. January will be spent re-attaching hardware and rigging. The new sails should be there the first week of January. The old paint will need to wait until after my winter adventures. Quote
R Johnson Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 Don, The boat is looking very good. Its amazing how much work it is to rehab an old boat. Hope your winter adventure is enjoyable. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 @R Johnson— It certainly doesn’t help that I’m fussy. Quote
Jonathan M. Cohn Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 She is looking great. Don't forget to take some on the water picks when you end up someplace warm! 1 Quote
R Johnson Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 She looks Awesome!. hmm that color reminds me of another boat... 1 Quote
Don Silsbe Posted January 25 Author Report Posted January 25 @Reacher— I didn’t do it for several reasons. 1. I didn’t have time. I am frantically trying to get ready for a month-long trip to Florida. I’m going to hang out with my friends of the WCTSS. 2. One of their members built a mast stepping aid that I liked. I’ve built my own version. It is finally ready to test. If successful, I’ll share it with all of you here. 3. My boat has a built in rope locker in the bow. I am trying this out this year. If this doesn’t work out, I’ll add a tabernacle next year. c4ab4165-ecd6-4eeb-bbaa-3a4c9900d8cc.mp4 f87718e4-e7b3-4100-87ef-c36b9cf1e4b4.mp4 Quote
Captain Tim Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Don, please show us how it works taking the mast down. Quote
PadrePoint Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Well, Don, I s’pose to bring the mast down, just lift it straight up out of the hole, tip it over a little bit and let it go, it should come down fairly quickly. You really don’t need to make a tabernacle. You might need a new mast among other repairs, but you seem to enjoy boatbuilding. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted January 25 Author Report Posted January 25 @Captain Tim— For me, the difficult part is insertion. PadrePoint is correct about withdrawal. Quote
R Johnson Posted January 27 Report Posted January 27 Don, Enjoy your month in Florida. The boat looks great and hope you have a great trip. Regards Quote
Don Silsbe Posted February 4 Author Report Posted February 4 I still have a lot to do on the interior, but I did make it to Florida. I really love sailing this boat. IMG_6994.mov 1 Quote

R Johnson Posted February 17 Report Posted February 17 Function over finish, Congratulations for getting it on the water. If not for you, it may have just faded away. 1 Quote

Don Silsbe Posted Saturday at 02:03 AM Author Report Posted Saturday at 02:03 AM Now, I’m working on my camping setup. I’m also moving the reefing downhauls back to the cockpit. Quote
