  1. I did a dry fit on the cockpit deck today. Things line up pretty well. I plan to glass the top of the panels before install. All horizontal surfaces will be glassed. The cabin top will be glassed in place. My goal is to flip the boat Memorial Day weekend. There is a lot to do by then.
  2. Function over finish, Congratulations for getting it on the water. If not for you, it may have just faded away.
  3. Don, Enjoy your month in Florida. The boat looks great and hope you have a great trip. Regards
  4. She looks Awesome!. hmm that color reminds me of another boat...
  5. Both boats plane. The Wayfarer of course much more easily. One thing I liked about the CS17III was that it would plane, and felt very secure. It is nice to be able to escape displacement hull speed. Somewhere there is a video of me in our first CS17III Avocet and we were sailing in the Neuse River and doing about 8 knots. The Wayfarer will outpoint the CS17III which is not a surprise. It is a different rig and made for racing. But along with that you get a much different feel that requires a lot more attention. Different horses for different courses. The Wayfarer will plane in the lower teens and the CS17III I believe in the upper teens. Graham and Alan would probable have the exact numbers.
  6. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kGtAXIKuSYyQsaLPVHl5Yb1wxD8LmQTE?usp=sharing a quick update
  7. David, Good evening. I am building my second Core Sound 17 MkIII. I sold my first boat, tried a Precision 18 which was a disappointment, so now I am building a second boat. My daughter is building a pocket ship. It has been a slow project for her due to work. It seems like a good kit. It does not have the room of the Core Sound. My wife and I like the Core Sound since it feels very secure, stable, and manageable in a variety of conditions. Our other boat is a Wayfarer Dinghy. The Core Sound is the boat we sail to relax and to do over nights. We don't want to conquer the world, just get away from it for a while. I am biased but I think with good reason. I hope this helps. If you have questions please ask. Regards
  8. Don, The boat is looking very good. Its amazing how much work it is to rehab an old boat. Hope your winter adventure is enjoyable.
  9. In the past I have struggled with glassing fillets due to the strings at the corners of the glass strips and having three pieces of glass merging into one corner. I did a few experiments and found that rounding the end of the piece of glass eliminated the strings and made for neater better epoxied corners. It does add about a minute of work to each strip in total. But I think it saves a lot of time fussing with the corners and or sanding later. For me this seems better.
  10. Meester, Good afternoon. Unfortunately not the wine cellar. There are two floor support pieces leaning against each other to keep from falling over. They should be vertical and will be before the cockpit floor gets installed. That is an area which is floatation. It is a compartment that is behind the water ballast tank. B&B cut out the holes so that, I believe, when the hatch is open there will be air circulation to all the areas of the compartment. On my last boat I put in a cleanout for each section for air circulation in this compartment. Access and air is important.
  11. The parts are back in the boat. There was some fiddling to get it all to fit right, but it is mostly there. I'll spend more time today.
  12. So I've progressed to placing bulkheads and small parts in the hull. There have been a few bumps. I exploded the bow of the boat with overly stiff shear supports. Supple is better. I tack welded the keel of the boat which went very well, then removed the wires. I proceeded to fillet and glass the keel. This should look like a nice straight line down the center of the hull, mine looks like river which over flows it banks along its route. It meets the requisite thickness in the center but looks like it was done by a 4 year old. I doubt the water will notice, but I will know.
  13. Don, Good morning. I will be there with Fetch W11336. I've added a few photos. I've reached the point where working on the boat is a compulsion and everything else seems like a disruption. Look forward to seeing you this afternoon. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kGtAXIKuSYyQsaLPVHl5Yb1wxD8LmQTE?usp=drive_link
  14. The boat is opened thanks to a good group of friends.
  15. Ready to unfold.
