Don't let Ken Potts location fool you.  I met Ken back in 2009 and I believe he is 'Merican.  :D

It's worse than that.  I'm not just a Merkin, I lived in the SF Bay Area for 10 years so Robert and I are practically brothers.  I bet I've cut him off in a Sacramento traffic jam at one time or another.

Depending on when you lived in SF, you may have cut me off on my bike while I was cutting through traffic delivering packages.

Peace,

Robert

Hi Robert ,I,m sorry for for  upsetting you .I have use  Lowe,s plywood for projects. But when it comes to money projects ,people paying for it you have to use the best material.Hell I have used door skins to build Kayaks.

This thread had nothing whatever to do with a professional boatbuilder building a boat for a paying client.

You may remember I gave nothing but compliments and made a few jokes, and not at your expense, nor in any way teasing you nor denigrating your craft, on a thread of yours, and you flipped out.

Then you come here and post rude comments. Yes, I know. Jokes. Ha. Ha.

I have been posting for years, and not just promoting my business.

Frankly, I only shared because everyone here has been polite, even when explaining my mistakes or decisions I made they disagreed with.

Shoot, PAR gave me what for a few posts ago, and never had to be rude.

But, dang.

The thought of you coming along and dropping your crass opinion on my future threads makes me reluctant to post them.

I may not post anything else here.

Peace,

Robert

Don't sweat the small stuff. I have caught hell from my projects and some unorthodoxed construction methods over the years right along with building with reclaimed materials. This goes with the territory on the net in general.  Keep posting, joking and poking away at your build and enjoy it on the water for however long you wish.

Oh I almost forgot, EPOXY IS CRAP too, or so says the Committee..:D I am still waiting to see the finished 256 from Chris, especially in person if its close to ENC before a good friend commits to such a project.

Back at you sir Greg!!!My luck has not run out yet.;) I am still on Skype, if you get the notion too. Send me a pm. and alert me, if you wish. Building consumes most of my days.  Hope you and the family are doing well. I guess the kids are married by now too. Time flies....

I say let's get this thread back on track and forget about the "drift" it's meandered through recently. It's been a few pages since I've seen a picture of Robert's project, let alone the ones he has waiting in the wings. More pictures, less drift (I know it sounds like a beer commercial) . . . I need boat porn (please) . . .

Ah, yes... The Committee. That's funny, right there. :)

And, for the record, I just find epoxy tedious. Mixing and temps and all.

Usually I just gouge holes in boards, jam sticks in them, tie the whole mess together with twine, then sew an old pee stained bed sheet around it, soak the whole mess with old cast off porch paint.

The only glue I usually use it to scarf sticks, so I use powder or tube glue.

Peace,

Robert

You don't have to worry about crass opinions any more. We only have one rule around here, the same one that has been around since 1999 when I first started hosting the original version of this forum: be nice.

We have a lot of nice people here.

Thanks, Frank.

I feel like a tool, now, so I put up some more pics for PAR. More to follow, PAR...

I don't want to be a baby, but I also don't appreciate rudeness. In any part of my life.

Blue humor? Well, sure. Bad puns and goofy jokes? Yep. Busting my chops? Sure.

Advice? Please.

Meh.

I really, really love this community of people, as I hope is evident from my years of postings. I'll keep putting stuff up.

Sorry for being an alimentary terminus. :)

Peace,

Awww, Robert. Ya know what they say. "The wonderful thing about Tigers, is Tigers are wonderful things."

No---wait---that's supposed to be "Tiggers". Oh well..........

Much more Tigger than Tiger, really. Now. How do I get down from his tree...

Robert

Here you go, PAR. And thanks. Making glass and gloop look smooth and nice takes time, by hand. It's my exercise and my hobby. :)

The first shot is the leeboard blank being cut to length, in preparation for glue up. Each half is stack laminated pine. The seams over lap a touch. The holes are for the 11,000 clamps.

This is how you cut stuff with a hand saw, by the by. Keep flipping, and keep the kerf along the line.

Cut slowly. It'll be okay.

The finished leeboard will a tad thicker than the plan, but will provide a better foil shape, and a better board. I think it's a 0012. I don't know. My buddy cut me some templates. On his fancy machine. I want to do the foils by hand.

The rudder is the same stack lamintated pine, but just one layer. They were supposed to be 3/4", but ended up slightly thick. Say 3/4"+ and 1 9/16"... The rudder will be foiled, too.

Then, both will be glassed, both sides, then given rope skid plates.

Second is the skeg, Also stack laminated, glued, filleted and taped into place. Tape to be filled and faired.

The third is an older shot showing the overlap of the bottom glass over the topside glass. The smudgy black line is a cloth edge that had to go away...

Anyway.

Peace,

Robert

I'm just very glad someone alerted me to it. Way too much of that kind of behavior in the world, I think, and this little corner of the Internet has always been an exception to it. I like it this way.

It's like opening the newspaper and finding nothing but good news.  Some threads excite me more than others, but all leave me pleasantly content for a few minutes in my day.
