I think the problem is that there are a whole list of products that are suitable for marine use that are proven and easily available. What's the point?

Everyone has thier own favorite epoxy. I prefer the 2 to 1 epoxies, I use the MarineEpoxy from bateau.com, also available on duckworks. There are only a couple issues that will stop your epoxy from curing. Incomplete mixing, bad ratio, contamination, and temp. You said you stripped the old epoxy off, did you use a chemical? That may be a contaminant. Is it cold? Try tenting your project and place heat lamps under the tent to elevate the temp of the whole project. What is the epoxy you are using? You need to strictly adhere to the mixing and ratio requirements of the epoxy to get a good cure. The 2 to 1 epoxies make it difficult to be so far off on your ratio that a cure will not happen. Mixing well is a bit of an art. you need to scrape the sides of the container, you need to mix long enough to get a complete mix you need to stop soon enough that you have time to apply the epoxy. Read the instructions on your epoxy and follow them exactly is the best advice that anyone can give.

How do you tack that bad boy? I take it the stay is a part of the sail and you drop the whole shooting match all at once.

If you look long enough on the internet you will find every opinion there is. Lots of folks have made all sorts of masts and spars using the birds mouth method and epoxy.

I'd think that the stainless hooks used by kayakers to lash bundles to the deck of thier boats or to keep hatches closed would server well in this instance. I must confess that I did not like the hard dodger until it became evident that it is removable. I hope your baby loves the boat. Mine is off to college soon. Where do the years slip by...

It probably has an affect but I would guess that it would be so small that it would defy measurement. It does however greatly affect the space in the middle of the boat.

I will be surprised if the kit will shorten the build time. It might save you time in that you will have no measurement mistakes to overcome. The kit will make the build somewhat easier. Certainly it will be less intimidating. Its a big project but you will be surprised how fast it starts and how soon it slows down. A high finish can easily double your time to build. I will not attempt to put a number on it. My boat is a similar size but somewhat less complicated and it has about 140 hours of actual building in it. I expect that I will finish with another 30 or 40 hours. The finish that I apply will be basic. Building time does not cover sitting and looking at the boat and wondering what to do now.

System three paints set up as hard as a rock. I suspect that the system three primer would stick to nearly anything. My only question would be the flexible nature of the skin. the system three might crack when set on a flexible surface. I've only applied it to plywood.

they are not light sailers. The compac that I have been on are heavy boats. They are also attractive and well made.

There is no fight here. My issue has been resolved. While you might think that my issue was insignificant in the face of all that is going on in the world for me it was a personal slap in the face. A slap that I could not see how to address. There was not contact email to which I could complain either in the ban message or on the homepage of the forum. So I made a public noise in a forum that I felt sure would echo over the byyb site. But as I said there is no fight here. The configurations applied to the site went further than the administrators understood and I was caught in the wash. When they understood my problem they worked to fix the issue promptly.

Me, out there.... Well that may be true but I think I've been carefull in crafting my online persona to reflect the straights that wander these forums. This is the first time I've been banned, I will admit to leaving a forum or two in a huff but I've never been booted from one. My normal pattern is to craft an incisive and vicious response and then to delete it before sending. My almost posts seem to outnumber my actual posts. Hmmm.... Maybe I'm the "difficult user" that Frank refered to in another thread.

I won't give my personal opinion of thier management style. I've been a member of that site and many other boat builder sites over the last 10 years, I am a professional systems analyst and administrator and I've never heard of a situation that would justify an accross the board banning of established accounts. To be honest I will probably just drop my participation at byyb. I find it very difficult to convey the depth of resentment that I feel over their actions.

It seems that I have been banned from the byyb forum for the heinous sin of having a yahoo.com email address. I've done what I can to find the email of someone who is an administrator of that site to complain but it seems that there is no option to contact these folks without posting in the forum. I'm mad, I'm resentful and I have been treated poorly.

No with one post to your credit you are safe. You might try and delete temp files in your browser to fix the other issue. It is winter you know and the run up to Christmas is especially slow.
