  1. I'm more a belt sander fan myself. but you are right any problem that you create with epoxy glass and wood can be fixed with the same. I don't think he ever finishes the boats. I did see one in a NCIS just recently that was mostly done, he was painting the name on her transom. I vote house. I was thinking. temporary jack to shore up next to the lolly column. I bet you can gain almost a foot without the house falling down in a big way.
  2. I hope that you build to a tight tolerence.
  3. Is there a smiley that means "disgusted snort of envy"?
  4. He could carry more than a typical hiker. A couple of waterproof packs and Bobs your uncle.
  5. I think its the old story here. If its too good to be true... In today's market its still the best strategy to buy from established brands with a history of excellence and folks with whom you have an active relationship.
  6. It is certainly a much more capable boat than weekender. I like its look. It will not be easilly beachable with that keel.
  7. I can count the number of times that I have caught myself standing at the end of the boat just looking at it. I'll stand there for 10 minutes. If I'm thinking its not in words. Its more like letting the shapes sink into me. Regarding accomodations all you need is a fridge for the barley pop, then get pizza delivered. Oh.... and a place to plug in my Ipod!
  8. I don't know about you but the only reason that I have made progress on my boat was that it was in the garage right at hand. I'm not sure that a shop some ways away would be productive.
  9. Do you recall the name of the font used in the core sound decal?
  10. How are you applying cloth? Are you applying a fitted piece of cloth to each strake?
  11. I am building a sailboat as well. I hope to launch this spring. Sailing out to the islands would be quite a feat. Erie is such a restive lake. I measured the distance in google earth. its about 3 miles from South bass to the coast. 5 miles between Kelley's and South Bass. I'm not sure I'm that brave. I expect to do most of my sailing on the Maumee.
  12. It will be quite an adventure to get to Starve Island in a weekender. Are you planing on putting off from South Bass?
  13. 6566 quality can vary alot. Its a lower standard for a reason. I personally would not use it for the hull. The 1088 is beautiful stuff.
  14. I do everything that I can not to get epoxy on me. I use vinyl gloves and throw them away after one use. I use vinegar to clean tools, brushes and the like. I expect to spend no more than $10.00 for gloves on my 15 foot sailboat.
  15. When I said unenforcable, I was making a distiction between what is legal and what can be effectivly be enforced. A contract cannot require you to break the law. But short of that its all legal. Its all about the contract.
  16. It would be legally binding and probably unenforceable. What you can do and what you can be sued over have a big overlap. This is however a pointless conversation. If people want to steal they will, personally I'm not up for it. You can also make all sorts of sophisticated excuses that shift the blame or ease your conscience but it doesn't change the act. Please don't take any of that as a personal reflection. This medium is so difficult sometimes.
  17. The license defines a contract between the seller and the purchaser. Regardless of copyright issues if you violate the purchase agreement you are in breach of contract.
  18. I've allways found it amazing that the powerboat crowd will pay thousands of dollars for an engine to make thier craft go but that sailors wince at hundreds for quality sails. I guess that they more easilly see the craft and technology that goes into a motor.
  19. What you really need to do is read the magazine. It probably says right there what the rules are. Otherwise if you are not using the plans then you don't have a problem. Boat designers look at other designers boats all the time. Then they design thier boat. Its the details that make a design. If you are supplying the details I think its your design. I guess if you took measurments from the plans in the magazine you could wander back accross the line to unreasonalble use.
  20. When you say the tiller is 4-5 degrees to weather do you mean the boat tends to turn up into the wind or the opposite?
  21. There are two possibilities. If the image is on the internet and has a URL that you can refrence all you need are the image tags. [img=http://server.domain.com/path/image_name.jpg] Otherwise you click on the "Additional Options" link below the composition window, click on browse and attach the photo directly to the message.
  22. Reminds me of the day that I got in my recently purchased car and a voice informed that that my onstar was about to run out. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
  23. 15 degrees, 50 mph gusts. Its finally winter in Ohio.
