ricknriver Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Tom, Have not sailed either enough to learn the difference and I'm not really performance focused (lazy sailor) . Long as she's comfortable and I don't have to row or motor her, I'm happy. My BH19 has sail tracks but the BRS15 has laced on sails. I believe more experienced others have CS17s and others with sail tracks & will chime in with comparisons. Quote
Hirilonde Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I think the biggest advantages to tracks are: Φ Raise mast without the sails on. Φ You can hank your sail on easily without raising it yet and while the mast is already up. Φ You can lower your sail easily without unhanking it even with battens. This is very useful cruising or stopping during a day sail. Φ Sail shape and air flow past the mast are very good. Not quite as good as sleeve or bolt rope in a groove, but close. Φ It works well with reefing systems. It is hard to get all the features in any system, but tracks comes really close. Quote

Maybe a small daysailer where you wrap the sail around the mast would be different. I had track on my P22 and was very happy with it. Now I have my CS20 Mk2 with track and full battens. Works GREAT. I Drop the sail complete with battens into a "sausage" bag (full length, zippered sail bag), and slide it into the cabin for trailering and storage. You can check-it-out at the mess-about. By the way, are you bringing a boat? Where we will be gathering is at Cape Lookout, and there is no bridge---gotta go by boat! Maybe one of us could ferry you out. Quote

I plan to launch in Beaufort sometime Friday, and anchor up at lookout that night. Meanwhile I'll be sailing behind Shack, or up around Lookout. I'll be in my green CS-20 Mk2. Haven't been out in anything but light breeze so far---hope it's a nice weekend! If you see a centerboard sticking up---SEND HELP!!! HokeyHydro posted this awhile back for you beach-cruiser types. "No driftwood - must bring your own firewood. Scrounging wood from the beach/dunes on the Shack is forbidden. Campfire allowed, must build it below the high tide line. Bring a camp shovel to dig a latrine". There are primatve bathrooms near the lighthouse (no showers), but that's a long walk from where you would be camping. Quote
