When I built the Saralee I did not epoxy the cabin interior nor the inside of the seat lockers. Just didn't really think about those areas getting wet. They are not supposed to. Anyway on the night of the wreck the cockpit was full to the rails and there was 6" or so of water in the cabin. Every little piece of that CD2 ply that was not perfect wicked up water and began to raise. By the time she had dried out she was a hell of a mess. Foundering was the last thing I ever expected to happen. Givein the cost in coin and labor that these boats require to build, coating the inside of everything is well worth the effort IMnotsoHO. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Bud it may take a bit more than 2 years; which passed on 10 Aug, seems the DoD isn't hiring either. If it takes too long I'll get a job at Wal-Mart's front door or sweeping out the beer joint. Hey Mike! Glad to hear from you. I too would not recommend the Vac for much open water work. I have had mine out in the Gulf a couple of times on calm days but wouldn't chance it with the wind kicking up. Then again in North Florida you are most always on a lee shore with the SW wind. The boats are just the ticket for large bays and the ICW as Konrad says. G-man there is no comparison between your Helson and the VAC. Two diffrent boats for two diffrent uses. Paul has some designs that will fill your bill better and still scratch the builders itch. If non of his apeal to you he can lead you to many more designed by others. I remember K-Rad, that at 115 degrees is what prompted me to sell the Saralee.

It is kind of a funny way to look at it Ken but my mistakes have taught me more than my sucesses in most cases. The cross application of those lessions is very useful too. I guess in this school you could say we were professional students as the term is used. 8) 8) 8)

With 44 years active duty and civil service behind me; and as a member of the baby boom leading edge at 62, I can assue you K-Rad isn't old enough for Hippies! He is correct however in that our young people are not being taught our true national history. That statement based on my two sons course requirements at Fla State and Univ of North Fla. The hippies are not running loose in the streets protesting, they got smart and co-opted the edcuation system from K through PHD. Remember the old saw that those who can do... ( Not true as a blanket statement; but to an extent true). IMHO it is not the quality of the recent generations or the intent of their parents to see that they are well edcuated, but a total lack of intregity in our edcuation system. Too much feel good BS and insufficient RRR ,truthful history, social studies ,and civics courses in how countries really work. I can remember being bored stiff when the pace of our instruction lagged. All the kids today get is directed to the lowest common demoninater and social welfare feel good nonsence. Is it any wonder they tune out and drift off to something the seems more interesting? Anyone but me remember the Beatnics?

Toad, the poplar I used in Fla would rot before your very eyes. Check with Bill Olney on the BYYB board. I think he has a contact who can get good marine ply here in PHX at a reasonable price. We're about ~2.5 hours from you so you might save on shipping to pick up here. You might also call some of the lumber yards in Tucson about some doug fir. They had some good stuff when I lived down there yearws ago. Stay away from the home centers; although, Lowes here has some excellent redwood.

I like to use the trim moulding also. I usually buy 4 at a time and store two. Easy to replace if broken or thrown javilin like into the yard. I also have 36 and 12" steel rules that work great for smaller arcs. I don't throw or step on them. 8) 8) 8)
