We're taking this serious out here on the Mexican border. Yes sir-e-Bob, yesterday TV reported a school closing because a 7 year old had a case of swine flu (confirmed). The kids were sent home in the afternoon by the school board because of the danger of this kid infecting others. The back story is that he causght the bug 8 days ago, stayed home, and recovered. Yesterday was his first doctor approved day back to school! All the mothers were organizing sports activities and other group things to entertain the kids while the school was closed. Bud is right that this is most likely another case of the media crying wolf. Of course, after being hit on the old bean by falling airliner parts during Y2K what the hell do I know.....

Good call Ken. Ray there are too damned many of us here anyway so if a few die; even mine, than thats the way it is. I can't run for the mountains every time someone on the the TV says Pandemic. You plan for the worst and hope for the best within reasonable bounds. I've seen this kind of stuff come and go over MANY years. Did you know I was a Polio Pioneer? Look that up. I'm not sure of the probability that I should be dead by now just from that. You can't knee jerk to everything that comes along just because some expert says it COULD be bad. In your situation I would recommend the Core Sound. Bargins are always avaliable for those who look long enough. When I was rigging the Saralee I found line from a guy in Nova Scotia that was 20 cents a foot cheaper than anywhere in the US and that included the shipping. PAR is correct that the rigging and sails may be the most costly part of building but shopping when you see a deal can save a lot. Don't forget the possibly of cutting down some good used sails to fit your boat. V/r Craig

When I was playing around with my tops'ls I made some pretty stiff birds mouth jack yards. You may want to look at some DF spars. Just an idea.... 8) 8) 8)

Very well Mike. We have; with Franks help, OK Frank has, stopped our spam issues and cut the workload by ~80%. We have quite a number of new people joining the board. Building is slow being winter but some folks; like others we know, keep plugging along dispite the Wx. Paul and I are still working the design of the Saralee II but so far that large project is still in the planning/design stage. We have opened the group to all designs now and are looking forward to things picking up as spring nears. We are all enjoying your new build. Keep them photos coming 8) 8) 8)

Yes Frank we are looking pretty good. I trace every IP. If the IP, email, and user name don't look right or is something I know is trouble I dump the app. If they look OK but don't follow the user name convention I approve them for 48 hours and send an e-mail asking that they change the user name. If the do fine, if not they are gone. Transfering our ban list from the old board really helps. So far so good. 8)

I don't think you are confused at all. You know exactly what you are doing. One question though, I still don't understand how the gain is made with the grinder. Is the semisoft pad used as a bearing against another board that defines the upper line placement ( the pencile line in post 90). Do you use a saw cut to limit the wood removal, or, is this all just eyeball. I find myself reaching for that grinder more and more often.

Paul are you using this rino liner type stuff inte bilge areas or onthe outside of the hull?

What they have done is built a barge to their own specifications and now have to certify the volume in some manner. This must be done before he can use it legally for trade. 2-7 has to do with the method measuring the tanks to certify capacity for full or partial off load. (Think certification of a gas pump's flow rate.) They will have to use the vessel drawings or direct measurement of the internal tank or tanks to get a certification. Where he mentions deadwood I suspect he is trying to corrolate draft to volume remaining. He is going to need a a good surveyer and an NA to certify his tanks. This might have been cheaper to do right with standard tank configurations out of the manual???? I sent him a list of surveyers in his area. Hope it helps......
