That is an idea CJ. Them things new are about $30 a foot! I will keep an eye peeled I need between 2-2.5' OD for this to look right. You could rig a Barq with the wire I have on this so the over engineered safety factor is there. (And the cost)

As it turns out Mike there is quite a bit of information about this on the web. Most says this is a super critical job best left to the professionals. Then, on the other hand, there are many who have done this in the home boat shop setting that got perfectly good result with lets say more time consuming methods. In the length I need for the top mast it is looking like the carbon fiber and aluminum are running neck and neck as to price. With the Al all I would need to do is make wooden reinforcements top and bottom. The carbon fiber is a multi day project that looks like a 25-35 hours time line plus what ever it takes to paint the thing. This will take more research for materials availability. Thanks for the confidence. 

CJ, Mike, et, al... Anyone ever use this stuff to make a topmast? Can you offer any tips? CJ, the foot valve in the well broke off ~4' below the top of the casing. Glad I called the drillers first. Saralee says it has been down there more then 15 years. Damn but time flies....

We're local Dave. Florida ain't that far and there is a bunch of us that have built them.

Tom you will need to take the reciepts for the materials used to build your boat to the tax collectors office in your county with an inspection letter from the Marine Patrol apply. Register your boat at 15.5 or 16 foot. Sprits don't cound only the deck length as Frank says. Have the reciepts, else you must declare the value of the boat and you will be taxed accordingly. The reciepts show the tax was paid on the materials. The bigger mess of documents you take the better, the will not want top copy all of them to fax to the state. YOu will get tag and regestration right there and tilte will come by mail. Do the trailer tags at the same time. My renewel was about $22.50 this year as I recall. Launch away!

Charlie I used your tape method when I built Saralee's new sprit. That sure works nice.

I use a table saw for birds mouth spars. The router bits run too fast and long staves heat them too much. Carefull work and a table saw is all you need.

I thought it was interesting Frank. Thanks for the info. My son told me with my router I didn't need a fire wall, Just spent the evening watching the glue dry on my Million Dollar Cradle and chasing small time adware. Seem some cleaners like SE Adware and Norton don't find everything even of they are up to date. What a pain.

Adla, I really enjoyed your page as well. It looks like you all had a real good time. I really loved the rudder repair! Nothing like field engineering to save the weekend! My favorite all around fit-it material is parachute cord. It ranks right up there with Duct Tape 8)
