Thanks. Paint is rustoleum three coats did a nice job, really like the way the 11oz cloth finished out. Hate to be a copy cat on the paint scheme but Jeff's looked so good had to try the same on mine.

Definitely like the day glow look better but only had the regular rustoleum colors to work with, just meant the dark hull and light deck look.

I love your coaming. How thick did you make each laminate. Were your able to

bend them by hand?

The cedar was abou 3/16 thick and I just used the heat gun to shape it, i had to be selective with the grain to keep from breaking the strips. Broke a couple learning that. The main part ended up 1/2 in with a 1/2 in lip.

Put the bow stem band on today, adds a nice touch.

I have to do mine soon too. But I need to repaint first. For some reason I used a semi-glass paint and it has never sealed it up, always weeps a little water through the skin. Got to go that soon.

Nice boat, I'm glad to see your success bending softwood.  I have a goal of making a traditional construction kayak using all softwood.  But traditional boat building wisdom is softwood can't be bent.  In fact no one would bend anything but white oak or so it seems. Have you had any issues with durability of the cedar?

I guess it depends on what you mean by bend.  If you mean steam bend sold wood into a shape and expect it to hold that shape, then oak is all I would ever use.  But if by bend you mean force it to curve, then all woods bend.  And if you stick to curves that do not cause them to break, any wood can be bent.*

It worked ok, had to be very selective with grain. Was surprised how well using a heat gun worked to soften the wood. One thing that might have helped was that this cedar itsnt kiln dried. Haven't used it yet to see how it's going to hold up long term, waiting for the water to warm up a bit.

I had always though my boat would have one of those clear coat finishes but seeing your boat in these colours makes me undecided now. Thanks a whole lot... lol
