Hi all,

Well, the kid thing isn't exactly behind us, but No. 2 is now 3 years old. 

Last time I was here was when No. 1 was still in the works.  He's five now.

So it's been awhile. 

So after (literally) several years of not seeing my Vacationer, I pulled it out of dry storage a week ago.  It needs a little attention.  Not a lot, but it does need some. 

It has a rediculous amount of dirt/dust on it from about 30 months of dry storage.  Several areas (mostly in the bowsprit) have some wood that's moved a small amount and cracked the fiberglass.  Small amounts of delamination on the gunwales, mostly back by the cockpit.  I'm going to make a new rudder and possibly a rudder box (don't ask).  And lastly, I have a list of several nagging spots random on the boat that I just never finished to a level that I was satisfied with. 

After racking my brain for two days, I finally remembered what the Interlux Brightsides paint colors were for the boat.  I bought one quart of Sea Green and Seattle Grey from Jamestown Distributors.

So all in all, what I'll probably do is pick away at my punch list and put it in the water this fall.

Sure is good to see the boat in the driveway again.

And the boys think it's a "new" boat, lol.

Yep I remember the old days of school when I walked in the snow for five miles in the winter and road my old Schwinn the rest of the time and used the old bike rack outside with no lock for it. I also remembered the principal that used whipping sticks by day and when I got home Mamma used a belt and sent mints back to the teachers and the principal for alerting her to my misdeeds.

I also remember the local fire department out of courtesy used to put mini license plates on the fenders of the bikes using a small drill and would make noises like air was leaking when they went through the real rusty metal scaring the heck out of us.

I remember smudge pots loaded with kerosene that we would put out on the way home that marked the ditches that were dug for the heck of it. I also remember the rope hanging from tree limbs that allowed us to swing out and leap into the water as mear kids.

I also remember cherry cokes at the soda fountains at the corner drug stores, and the penny candies too. Oh for the good old days as kids, indeed!!! They do grow up fast and their toys change too. ;D

Holy crap, you can say THAT again...

Obviously I won't be building another boat anytime soon.

(But since I've built two and a half of them, I'm exempt now)

Wierd things change too.  Things you'd never think of.  Like that your dishwasher now runs at least 5 days a week instead of two.  Same with the laundry.  And cripes, I cannot get over the massive volumes of food that get thrown away.  >  And speaking of throwing that food away, never mind that it cost $140.00 earlier that same week, and NOW it's going in the trash..?!?  Umm...  Did you realize that human babies take more years to reach independence than ANY other species in the animal kingdom?  WTF...??

See, you got me on a rant... lol.  ;D

Moored in 2 feet of clear water just off of Jewfish Island in the intercoastal waterway of Florida.

I hated that job, but I did like the sailing.

Does my Vacationer still hold the record for most miles traveled?

Lincoln, NE to North Carolina, then down to Bradenton, FL.  Then back to Lincoln.

Gee Konrad, have you forgotten that the kids become "crew"?  I taught mine to sand at an early age.  At first they liked it but 5 minutes later the varmits were sneaking away...I had to resort to feeding them based on how much sanding they did, talking sailor at them in a loud way, and using the Cat.  Then they figured out that if Mom found out, I was in the brig and they were in front of the TV with food.  Darn that woman anyway. ;D

I DID put my 3.3 hp Mercury outboard on it.

I never got brave enough to plane it out though, so I stayed at about 25% throttle all the time.

Even back then, in my (ahem) "wilder days", I really didn't feel that a self-inflicted amputation was appealing.

Sure did.  It converted back and forth from land to ice sailing and back.  That thing was great.

That was what I thought I remebered.  Seemed like you used to reach some scarey speeds on that thing.

Steady 15-17 mph wind would yield high 30 mph speeds, occasionally breaking 40 mph.

With your butt 8 inches off the ice, it feels like 100...

Yea, I remember that picture of you trapezing on a cat, with one hull flying. I can still see it in my head.

Made me want to sail cats.

I came by as Coolguy emailed me about the Stevensons (my contact details are on their website).  I haven't visited in a while.

The weekender is still there, but the weather and time isn't.  I got out twice this year, once for 1/2 an hour, and last week for the day.  No wind so I spent most of the day motoring around the place.

I must get out again soon.  But with house renovations, work, new hobby (kayaking), and the rest, there just isn't the time.
