We dispatched toward Virginia Beach EARLY on Sunday morning, as Gina's mom was failing fast. We got as far as Charlotte, NC when we got the call that she had passed on. Fortunately, we had seen her a week before and Gina got to talk to her Thursday evening on the phone. After the call, we turned around and headed back to Daphne. We are home now and expect to be here. Memorial service will be sometime in late April or early May (we think). Frank Hagan Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Yep, that's the cradle I made for my grandson; they still use it as a toy box with the rockers on the bottom of it (I made the davits so they can be taken apart and stored). I think that's the project my wife figured out my game plan on ... you know, you have to buy the $450 planer to make the cradle? Got the planer, but I think my "new tool with every project" plan has been busted! Oyster Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I used 4mm Occume. All of the components are also made so it can be taken apart, using stainless steel machine bolts and lock washers. The cross member was tapered a bit at the ends so this makes it easy to be removed after the pieces sit together for a while. The center piece for the davit is meranti plywood and the outsides are occume. The cross piece is two pieces of glued occume. The solid timber is mahogany. It just so happens that yesterday while preparing to go sailing, a fellow showed up with this little toy. Now this is really cool. The boat has a two stroke 15 hp. Evinrude with a modified lower unit. Quote

Ken_Potts Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008  I've been boating but I don't have pretty pictures to share - I forgot the camera today. I went out to Jordan Lake today with my friend Mike and we ended up winning the forecast lottery - The winds were forecast to be so-so and there was supposed to be rain but instead we had SSW 15 knots and a rip-roaring good time planing along under threateningly overcast skies. The rain didn't start until we were headed home. ;D  Thanks for the pictures - Pretty. Oyster Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 Six hours of some of the most ideal conditions and few yahoos wondering around the eastern end of the banks. We took a big lunch and gear to setup camp on the beach because we did not know if the weather would be ideal but wanted to air the sails out. But we never touched the sands. We sat the sails and laid back with feet propped up, and leterrip. Mighty fine, or so says me. Quote

Steve Day Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Hey Gang, We've been doing a bit of sailing here in Mobile. I went with the Sea Scouts to give them a little "tacking drill" last week in 15 - 18 knot winds on their Bristol 40. They were really tired, but had a blast! I had a couple of trips up into the delta with the Delta Explorer taking upwards of 50 people on each trip looking at Ospreys, Alligators and other wildlife. We also took Day's Dream down to the mouth of Mobile Bay to enjoy the weather and the clean water down there. I took the opportunity to clean the barnacles off the prop while at anchor. We saw at least a dozen porpoise in several pods during the day. To sum it up, the weather has been great and we are out enjoying it. I hope all of you are enjoying it as much as you can. Steve Quote
Oyster Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 I think I will add some more diversions from the Beaufort boat show this past weekend that we attended by water. The sprits'ls were in full bloom and the winds were just right. We even got a couple of sailing shots of Popsicle from a guy that was standing on the dock shooting and did not know it at the time.
