Not really Doc. I love the tambour, but I was thinking more of aluminum (aluminium) slats that are extruded and each joint is a hinge. It would roll up into a rather small roll at the forward end. I think a tambour would require much more room to stow . Also, I don't think I'd step on that nice wood. I picture a stout welded aluminum (aluminium) frame............ but then I get aluminum (aluminium) welding free.

Ok, humor me for a minute. (humour for Graham) What if you had a custom-made roll-up shutter like those seen on businesses in the not-so- nice neighborhoods? (neighbourhoods) It should be quite easy for the manufacturer to custom size it. It would be stout enough to stand on, be powder-coated, and it should be possible to keep it weather tight. Maybe there are some that let in light. You could hide the framework in exotic wood...... It would lock. .............................................................................................................................what if it rattles?!

Think you'll have it done by the first weekend in March?

The intangible is that every time I pick up a fine tool, be a Fein or a really nice screw driver, I look forward to the chore. For working on my 1936 Austin I need Wentworth sizes. I have a set of King Dick open end spanners and a set of King Dick ring spanners, and they are heavily chromed and a joy to use. (Had to show off a bit. I've become nearly bi-lingual since I got my British car.)

Not a good idea Steve. Sorry. The same traits that make the Spindrift such a great dingy are it's Achilles' heel. If you could somehow deck over the entire boat, that would be a good start. When I ran the checkpoint at Flamingo one year I saw some fine sailors who got to a point out there where they really didn't know if they were going to make it. They chose to pack it in at Flamingo, 30 miles from the finish, and that wasn't an exceptionally bad year. Nearly every sailor found the leg to be much more than they expected.

Wes, I don't think you'll like Velcro. I didn't. My front window had canvas that unzipped to expose window that unzipped to expose screen that unzipped to allow one to serve the anchor etc. from inside the boat. All that zipping was very easy and worth the trouble. I only had zippers on three sides of each window/screen, but if you had a zipper go around all four sides it would be easy to replace the screen. I had Velcro on screen that covered the whole aft wall of the tent. It was a real pain putting it together neatly. Little critters always found their way in till I started spraying all edges with Off every nite.

Windows Wes. Think windows that open to screening. Ventilation is everything.

So sorry to tell you Randy, but you'll do it again..... and again. However, you'll learn to recognize it sooner and eventually you can make it look like it's part of your normal routine ..........almost.

If you add graphite to the epoxy on your rudder blade, center board, and inside of your trunk the board will operate a bit smoother and if you sand down to 600 grit the parts look like hi-tec carbon fiber. How much is your guess. I just added "some" and liked the way it turned out.

I think this is one of those cases where only you will know it's there, but knowing it's there will drive you nuts. Just to offer a different choice, you might fit a 2x6 (temporarily) along the starboard stringer/bulkhead and wedge in lengths of 1x2 from the 2x6 to the keel to push it into place. Then plank the port side first.
