Forgot to ask the questions I had. 1. While evening out the keel, I found several narrow gaps in the lamination. I'm thinking of filling them with epoxy. I am not going to glass the keel so I don't think I'll have to worry about rot? Right? 2. I'm going to use Bondo for the fillet on the keel and to fill any hull issues. (Yes, I've read all the pros and cons, all the bondo will be under glass so I don't think it will be any problem) So the question is how far past the fillets and fill should I take the glass? I'm figureing about 2 inches. Is that enough? 3. I'm planning on 3 gallons of epoxy and 30 yards of glass, 40 inches wide. Is that enough for the outside and cockpit of a Weekender? Thanks for your wisdom

Finally got done plaining, sanding and routing. Round one!!! capt jake, bless you and thank you again for the use of your electric plain. Your generosity allowed me to take several days of hard plaining and shrink it to a matter of hours. I don't care what anyone says (even me.) Your the best!!!! 8) I'm in the process of getting the fiberglassing materials and, with some more filling and sanding, hope to be ready to glass in a week or so. The push is on to get completed before the cold and rain sets in for good. Man it's nice to be on a roll again!!!!!

Don't worry about it!! I do it all the time, Just ask anyone here :wink: Remember, only you can prevent forest fires see?

capt jake, I agree with everyone else. Unless they make it worth your while forget it. Listen, if you can still keep humping bricks at home and make it into work the next day then you can easily keep "pulling hose" for a long time yet. A lot can happen in 8 years....Chief :wink: The commute is totally an issue also, do you really want to go past the Dome in rush hour? On 5? Pay you more, give you a take home vehicle and let you keep you rank, then you might think about it!!! Just my two cents.

Jan and Roland, thanks for the spur... My son and I, being manly men (read stupid :wink: ) decided that since I had finally gotten the seats and shelves in, to turn the boat today. I am working outside under one of those tarp car covers so side to side space is kind of limited and the framing is not strong enough hold a pulley and I don't own a jack big enough so...two backs, one neck, an ankle and a side of the face later, she is upside down and on saw horses...yup, did it the old school way, when men were men and pain just part of a days work, yes sir, nothing like a feeling of accomplishment as you hobble into the house, pulling slivers from your hands and face looking for an ice pack. Just a ten minute job and presto, boat is over. By the way, the center of weight of the boat is much further towards the bow than you would think...and I didn't know boats could spin so well on their rub rails Now on to filling and sanding!!!!!!!! :roll:

Yup, if ya' get up here next summer, we can go and harass capt jake and some of the others up here and maybe have a impromptu get to gether. capt jake can't hide, I know where he lives. ...he took it real well when I forgot to raise his rudder and jammed it against the ramp... and even didn't yell when I bashed the bow on the dock a couple of times...of course, he never did invite me back to sail again :wink: His boat was too perfect. Someone had break it in for him :twisted: :roll: (you could not beleive the hull finish he has :!: I can with perfect confidence say that mine will not be so smooth, nor my creatation so perfect.) Speaking of capt jake, he stopped by the other day to see my boat...I think he was shocked :shock: at my workmanship :oops: He did the right thing...when you can't say something nice, shush, say nothing, and change the subject as soon as possible.

Ok, I have another question Oyster, How come you didn't finish the sides while it was upside down? I would think that unless the sides are straight up and down it would be easier to "plank" it that way.? :?

Just got back from a family gathering in OR on the cost and like to freeze my behind off. School season's starting again so work is interfering with my play time, that and harvesting my garden. Still need to finish glueing and screwing the port seats down, installing the shelves then turtg her over to finish the bottom. Seems like I've been here for a while now. :oops: :? I really need to get to work on the boat again.

You mean this kind of thing never happens where you live?
