so I'm almost done with the topside and I mix the epoxy like always and get to work. Within 10 minutes it begins to steam...skim on the top...it got HOT!!! :shock: :? melted the liner I had in the paint tray. solidified in the next 3 minutes :shock: :shock: Being the brave soul I am :roll: I mixed another, smaller batch and finished the job. That too began to go off extra quick. Must be warmer than I thought here in the NW.... OK, so let it dry over night. fair and sand then paint. I used to hate painting but compared to fiberglassing I like it. Looks like I'll have her done by the end of the month!!

I'm serious Bob, have you ever thought about getting your pic's together and publiching a book on all this stuff you give us for free? It always blows me away when I see the stuff you post.

I don't see what the problem with the lake is? Just beef up the bows of your boats or build a false bow like they used to do on the old sailing ships and pretend your and icebreaker. :roll: Better yet why not add big wide leeboards on them and then you would have a combination iceboat and sailboat :twisted:

nope, all though that is a pretty narly picture. 8) It turns out that the picture I was thinking of was one of the "Alaska Fleet's" in shallow water. Looks like it was a good thing that dock was there :shock:

OK, I read the Capt's saga. I still don't understand it, but I read it. He never does say what he actually did and how it came out. Since I've been on his boat I know he did get it done but... :roll:

Speaking of the Capt. Anyone heard from him recently? Hate to think he fell of his roof with all his remodeling and all :wink:

Ok, I'm getting to the point where I have to think about complying with the laws here in regards to my boat. :? Any advise would be welcome. I do have sometime left. I still have to finish glassing the top side and attach all the hardware.

OK, I guess I'm just not to swift on the computer. I've tried everyway I can think of to locate a microplane shaper on the web and I can't find one. My local hardware has something similar but it's too wide for the 1/2 sheaves I'm making. I'm getting real tired of cleaning out my rasp. Any ideas where I can order one? :? Thanks in advance.

thanks Dave R1 ordered a couple of blocks today. I did find that converson chart, I think, on the old MSN site but had to reapply for membership. on a web search it stated I could get it on the details page but I couldn't find it. OK, Frank...stop hiding the stuff...I know you got it somewhere!!! :wink:

OK, does anyone remember where the conversion table is for the Harkin numbers for the blocks. I know it's here somewhere but I can't seem to locate it. Frank, was it you? btw, went to boaters world here in WA, south of Seattle and asked where they kept the blocks. The kid looked at me with this blank expression and I said "ya' know, like pullies?" He had to call his manager and she stated they didn't "do" sailboats at her store anymore. :? so, I'm just going to order them off line but I need the numbers, at least for the two involved with the steering. Actually, it was fairly tame...(whatever you do don't ask Ray about ballast...wink, wink, nod, nod.) But truthfully, the amount of very excellent information from Ray and Tom and Frank and Capt. OK, I'll fess up. It's a Stump. Thats right, I built and designed it back in 1804 for my trip with Lewis and Clark. I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner but I was im-bare-assed about how I had to repair her after all the portaging I had to do back in the day.... now you know the truth and the true STORY of the boat. btw, I sailed her around the Horn to get her back to the east coast from the pacific... oh the STORIES I could tell. :wink:

I'm going to be fiberglassing in the cool of the NW and the epoxy I have is a 4-1 mix. I've been told there is sometimes some blushing after applying a coat. What is the best way to remove this and/or do I have to? I keep putting this off. For some reason I seem to have an unreasonable fear of fiberglassing. But boy, it sure would be nice to see the topside again. :wink:
