Very cool. Very stable. Looks like a good simple build. Only question I have is if the daggerboard is wide enough to resist lateral drift while under sail? Let it be known that I have very little experience with dagger/center/lee boards (as will be noted with the MASSIVE :oops: leeboard I put on that little skiff I put together.

Working at Amazon your in for traffic anywhere you would live. You could live on Beacon Hill but I wouldn't really recommend the public schools. And the prices, ouch!!! Lots of new housing in the Covington, Kent, Auburn area (thats south of the city.) Schools are good...generally. Prices seem to be the most resonable in the area. General cost of living is going to knock you out...kind of pricey. Living on the pinnensela (sp) or the islands generally is cheaper for housing, but taking a ferry and then a bus will greatly increase your travel time. The eastside has some very nice areas, with prices to match, and then you have no choice but crossing the bridge, sometimes that can take a while. If you can. The advise from capt jake is good if you can swing it with the family and all. But with all the negative, this is a GREAT place to live!!! Lots and Lots of activities. I wouldn't live anywhere else... and I have! PM me if you want and I'll try to answer any questions that you have. Are you SURE you can't bring your boat?

I have sanding, lots and lots of sanding...even more after today

So, I thought today would be the day to try epoxying something. I have never used the stuff before and thought I'd start small. I chose to coat the inside and outside of the rudder box, thinking that it would be a nice start and then using any extra to pour in the small gaps in the keel. I very carefully put one part of hardner in a container, four parts epoxy in another and then some white vinager in a third, arranged all my materials...and got to work. Putting on gloves, I carefully mixed the hardner into the epoxy and mixed. Wow, I could feel the container start to heat up from the chemical reaction and began "painting" my parts. Had to really pour it on since it seemed to sink in a lot!. Got the rudder box put together and then poured the rest into the keel areas. Gosh, lots of work time. Just a little sticky and thin. Finished and then went to clean up with the vinager I had... :oops: ohh, noo. That vinager sure seems thick! What a minute :shock: That's epoxy!!!!!! :shock: :oops: :cry: Soooo....Started all over again. This time mixing the right stuff. Gee, sure is thicker when you use epoxy rather then vinager :wink: I hung up the rudder box to dry and went inside to finish cleaning up. When I returned out side I found that the rudder box had fallen onto the dead grass inside my encloser and a large quantity of dead materal had stuck to the outside of the box. I rehung the box, more securely this time, and went back inside and called it a day. I'm figureing I'm going to have to sand the crap out the the box to get the grass off but I have no idea how the epoxy is going to cure with the precoating of of vinager and hardner... :roll: All in all, I've had better days. :x

Just my own two cents. I have NEVER had good luck with Behr products. Then again, some people swear by them. So....I guess I really can't help you. :wink:

I bet if you fired on off every time one of those nasty creatures came by it might detour them from coming too close :roll: on second thought, it would probably only draw them closer...but then you could hit 'um with a paddle and claim you thought it was a shark or somthing. :wink:

The DHMO distrubuter has been attempting to smother that other liquid in an attempted matter state conversion... so far the attempts have been unsuccessful with the DHMO being converted instead :shock: :shock: I for one have my trailer packed and ready to go. :wink: You never know what will happen if the DHMO is continued to be applied. This is what happens when there are no goverment controls on the disprusal of DHMO!

I built a whole kayak using the thicker PVC material over a wood frame. I glued and tacked the thing together. 15 years later it is still gong strong. The great thing about it is if you do skuff a leak in it you can fix it by applying a patch of duct tape for the short and glue a patch for a stronger cover. Still supple after all these years. Of course I do try to keep it out of the direct sun for long periods of time. :wink:

One of the dangers of living in the Pacific NW is all the DHMO in the environment. Particualry when we have overcast skys, we tend to have alerts about how much is expected! :shock: I always try to stay inside during an outbreak or at least carry some type of protective devise when I know that once again, an alert has been given. I would also say that though various tests of my own I find that covering my vehicle in DHMO tends to draw even more to the surrounding area. Sometimes covering many square miles :!: Could this be an example of like attracting like? :? On a more positive note, I have found that the Sun is a wonderful and natural way of reducing the amount of DHMO in the environment.

I just recieved my glass and epoxy from RAKA. I got 1/3 more than listed in the plans, 30 yards of 50 inch, 6 oz cloth, and 5 gallons of epoxy that I can use down to 40 degrees for curing. Adding in a few odds and ends and shipping it was $430.00. Since I have never used the stuff before I felt better about using a "known" product. I swollowed alot while ordering it but I figured in this case being cheap would not be in my best interest. BTW. the ordering process itself was painless. I just told Larry how much I wanted and were I was going to be working with it (outside, under a tarp) and he suggested the correct mix. 8)

VERY COOL!!! :shock: Can you estimate yet how the recoil with effect the "ship". How much of a push to the side do you think there will be? Do you think it will be enough to change your direction of sail? i.e. actually push you sideways through the water? I'm beginning to get the feeling of a road trip coming when you get completed! I gotta see this!! 8) After all, Bosie isn't that far from Seattle.

Congrats on your find 8) and welcome!!! I'm sure one of the folks here can give you a hand. I'm one of those other guys from the next forum over that kind of dip in here now and again for ideas that fit all boats. :wink: My guess would be you'd have to custom design to fit your coamings. Shouldn't be that hard though. Best of luck

Just checked the plans Dave and you are right. Dick, you'll have a small triangle on either side after you assemble the pieces. you can either fill it with plywood piece or just use a filler and fair smooth when finshing. (that's what I did) :wink: Welcome to the Fun. You know of course that now your previous life is over
