Ray, Thanks for the info..Just what I was looking for!!!! Ya' I hear the straight can be bad, I was wondering if I might be better to head up the coast and then head due west... On to my next question, I'm looking at the Riptide saltwater 55lbs thrust motor. Is that about the right size? I'm concerned about getting out in the Sound and some of the currents that can come up, also, I am hoping to go up to the San Juans, and I would hate to get stuck halfway across with no wind...I really would rather not row that far if I can help it. Ya' I know, an outboard would be a better bet but I just don't want to have to deal with the smell and noiseand the price of gas, that's the whole point in building a sailboat and not a motor cruiser. Which leads nicely into battries. What and how many? I want to place them, or it, in the bow since I'm not a little guy and would hate to see my boat looking like a canoe when I sit in the stern. :oops: I also remember reading that the weight in the bow helps some in waves etc. what with steering and all.

capt jake, When you have the time I would be very intested in talking with you. I am in awe of your workmanship. Berry, I checked out the glen-l site, looks like a great idea for moving the boom up and down. I beleave the number is 13-030. I should be able to find the track locally right? I had already planned on a topping lift, using a boom gallows or crutch only when transporting. I have looked at the plans on the tent site you mentioned and am interested in the plans yet very much baffled on how to go about the actual constuction. I am very interested in your ideas and would be interested in getting any information from you that I could. My wife inparticular would be much happier with the port-a-pot space. I suggested a seat of ease off the bow,ie a plank with a hole held with a VERY large clamp she was not amused :? tdrown, I thought about jaws, I really did, I even found some stuff on the net, then I got worried about downhalls and more lines and platforms for them to sit on and I got scared. :wink: Did I mention I work nights? :twisted:

I'm taking the plunge and actually going to join in to the conversation since I'm to the point where I might actually finish my boat. Hull sides are on, gaps filled with bondo and I'm getting ready to work on the cabin trunk. I'm building to the design pages and plan on upgrading after I actually get her in the water. EXCEPT... One thing I do want is to provide the option of a boom tent. That leads me to the way the boom is attached to the mast, which leads to the shape of the mast, How the tent is designed etc. I've followed the links to the web pages but does anyone have any personal experance? Also, I've noticed quite a few folks from my neck of the woods, Pacific NW, and was wondering, since I'm going to have to learn how to sail anyway :shock: if it would be possible to invite myself along to crew with one of ya'all (and also steal ideas.) I know it's kind of pushy but I've never been able to keep my mouth shut.
