Jknight611 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Report Posted September 25, 2015 Hi Steve, gotta post some pics of your boat! The aft 2 ports are the same size, the forward is a little smaller. Initially they won't open, maybe later. On our other boat we realize we haven't opened the ports in years! When at anchor they don't help much. The plexiglass is 3/16 and is bonded in with 3M VHB tape. Just experimenting, don't want to drill leaks any place I can avoid, so far the VHB is incredibly strong, I am sure the bond would break the plexiglass before it let go. Quote
BlueHeronRVA Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 love the color choice! Skip Quote
Steve W Posted September 28, 2015 Report Posted September 28, 2015 I hadn't planned to make mine open, but I live in a cooler climate. I suspect a good hatch scoop on your forward hatch will give you all the ventilation you need, and certainly makes the window install simpler. As for posting pictures, there isn't much to see that hasn't been shown. Soon though! I'm taking my Sea Pearl 21 to the Mid Atlantic Small Craft Festival this weekend and I am sure to be inspired. I'm hoping I can get a ride on a CS17 or 20 while there for inspiration. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Jay, Your paint job looks great in these pictures. May I ask what you used, and how you applied it? Don Quote
Jknight611 Posted September 29, 2015 Author Report Posted September 29, 2015 Don, the paint is Awlgrip, with the slow brushing activator. Just "roll an tip". We found a velour mini roller covers from Sherwin Williams work good. As expected there are a few areas that I wish I has rubbed on before paint, but they are darn hard to find till it is shiney! Then they are really easy to notice..... Quote
Jknight611 Posted September 29, 2015 Author Report Posted September 29, 2015 Puddering with the rudder today, do most guys trailer with the rudder installed, or removed? Quote
Dale Niemann Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 I trailer my CS 17 with the rudder off. I am fearful of the uphaul not keeping it up. It is very easy to remove and lay in the cockpit floor. dale Quote
Chick Ludwig Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 I have my rudder mounted with a cotter pin through the pintel below the gudgeon preventing it from "jumping" off. I don't depend on the uphaul to hold the blade up. I run a 1/4" bolt with the threads cut back to the unthreaded portion as a pin through the cheeks and blade while trailering. This way rudder is safe and I don't have to lay it in the boat. Also, I can't accidentally leave it laying in the garage. (I know YOU would never do that, but....) Quote
Jknight611 Posted September 29, 2015 Author Report Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks guys, at the Messabout I saw a boat with eye screws in the pole that supports the mast, option 3. We hope to get on the trailer this week. That will answer a lot of my queries. I am drilling the thru-hulls for the A/C unit tomorrow, sure hope the mast tracks get here soon!!! Chick, I don't know, I motocamp a lot in my other life, and I have been known to make excuses like " I am going to try to sleep tonight with out my sleeping bag and pad". It will save weight...... Quote
Chick Ludwig Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 I'd be lost, dazed, and confused without my sleeping bag, pillow, and nice berth cushions!!! Saving weight is good, but not at the expense of comfort for my old ragged bones... Quote
Jknight611 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Report Posted September 30, 2015 We plan on going to B&B mid Oct to get the mast tracks and sail then spend a week or so trailer cruising the coast. Then return for the Messabout. Our "interior" will be basic till our shakedown cruise then we will make some cushions when we see how we want them. Just using "lawn" furniture cushions till then. Carol will keep us from forgetting stuff, after that motorcycle camping trip I forgot my sleeping stuff.......ain't happen like that again! Quote
Don Silsbe Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 Weight be damned, my backside needs comfort! LOL Where is South Coast, anyway? Quote
Jknight611 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Report Posted September 30, 2015 That big body of salty water down south! The Gulf of Mexico. We live about 100 miles north of the coast. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 Oh. That one. In that case, I used to live on the North Coast. (Lake Erie) I'm looking forward to meeting you next month. Quote
Action Tiger Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Ah, the South Coast. I misspent a goodly portion of my youth being handed around amongst distant relatives in hopes one of them could cure me, which obviously failed, and a few good years were down there, mostly in Texas. I spent all the rest of my life out here on the Left Coast, but I aim to get back to the South one, and maybe even that other coast one day. I hear they got cities and what not over there, now. Quote
Jknight611 Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 Just poking her nose out of her crib for the first time! 1 Quote
Steve W Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Pretty exciting, love the colors.......Please show a pic of the whole boat! BTW....the MASCF was cancelled. It's a long shot, but I may try and make the messabout. It's 12 hours+ from here, but If you are going to have your boat there, it will be worth it. Quote
Jknight611 Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 If these are sideways, I must have a left handed camera! It is durn close to being finished, A little HoHo on the mast, it will be picked up at the Messabout then we can call it "close to being finished!" Quote
