Andy— We were supposed to post photos on the Substack app, but I had difficulty.  I think there’s an age filter.  LOL. Anyway, here are a few of my photos.  The videos are a little more complicated to post.

Substack is a really inferior platform for user content.  I love the new Small Craft Advisor on that format, and follow others.  But its strength is content publishing, not user comments and participation.  This site is way better for that.  I write not to nitpick but because this site (both the information and camaraderie) is invaluable and it would be foolish to set that aside.

Hey guys, Thanks for posting more pictures here. To clear up the confusion, in the email newsletter right before the messabout that i sent out (through substack) i include a link to a shared google album (this one https://photos.app.goo.gl/tfSxy2mx7yhuqMLS6) suggesting that everyone could add their photos from the messabout to it. If you don't use google that's fine but I'm not even sure you need a google account to add photos to it. It's set to allow collaborators (anyone to add photos to it).

To be clear, you don't have to do anything in the substack app or even download the app at all for that matter. That's actually why I chose substack for the new B&B newsletter precisely because everyone could just read the posts in their email and not have to deal with an app if they didn't want to. Not everyone uses this forum or facebook but pretty much everyone has to do email. You only need to mess with the substack app if you want to comment on posts or articles (participate on that platform) which many of the readers from SCA substack do. But again, not required.

Working on a "messabout wrap up" post now and will include that link again there. I did get some builders who misunderstood though and posted just some random photos from their phone to it or their entire build album on accident so i'll probably turn off the collaboration in a couple weeks.

Awesome, Alan.  That sounds right in line with how others use substack, and I'm looking forward to more content from B&B, that would be awesome!  Some day I'll make it to the Messabout.

Hello,

Unfortunately I live too far away for this, I would love to come to one of these Messabouts, I am still considering a Coresound 15 or 17 as a project (I would be most interested in the SR version, is there any news on that?)

Can somebody please tell me something about this balanced lug yawl? It looks to me like a CS17, or something very similar. My current ride is a Caledonia Yawl and I love it. In theory, I would prefer a CS17-yawl over a ketch, mainly because I think the mizzen in the ketch is sort of in the way.

Thanks a lot.

Viktor

I was interested in attending the 2024 Messabout to answer a few questions I had and sail with some experienced Core Sound enthusiasts. I purchased a CS 17.3 from the Chief of the Water tribe in February of 2024. I generally sail in lakes near where I live in Omaha, Nebraska but wanted a boat for some shallow water adventures. So far I have trailered and sailed her in Pensacola, Florida for the Florida 120 and at the Jordanelle Reservoir in Heber City, Utah.

I didn’t have the time to spend two days driving to Bayboro and back but several people encouraged me to come without a boat. I’m glad I did! It was great to meet so many people whose posts I had read on the forums and facebook. I enjoyed checking out the shop and seeing where my CS 17.3 was born. I was worried I’d have three footitis and fall in love with the CS 20.3 but the thing I most left the Messabout wanting was a remote control boat that Alan let people try out.

I flew in to New Bern and rented a car. B and B is about 30 minutes away. I decided that rather than staying in a hotel or bringing my camping gear on the plane, I’d rent a little cabin at River’s Edge Family Campground. The little cabin was pleasant and about 5 minutes from B and B. It’d be a fast sail if someone wanted to stay at River’s Edge and sail over to B and B. They have a few cabins and hookups for RV’s and campers.

Thanks to Alan, Graham, B and B, and all the attendees. I really appreciated your boats, stories, wisdom, and examples. I think attending the Messabout with my boat would be ideal but for anyone who is interested but can’t make it with a vessel, don’t hesitate to attend.

Several people asked me about the Florida 120. It is not a race but a raid style event where all boats camp in the same place each night. It is easy going in that there is a place someone could stop for lunch and/or resupply almost every day. Boats Camp on shore or anchor just off.

There is not a lot of big water in Nebraska. I am hoping to have some small boat adventures elsewhere. Here is my list of possible events for small sail boats:

Everglade Lack of Challenge, 2 Week of January, Raid, West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron

Everglades Challenge, First of March-ish, Race, Watertribe

Florida 120, May, Starts first Thursday after mother’s Day, Raid

Texas 200, 2 full week of June, Raid

Salish 100, July Mid month, Raid

OBX 130, July, last day-ish, Raid, Odd years 2027, 29, etc.

North Carolina Challenge, September Mid Month, Race, Watertribe

Mississippi 110, October, Mid Month, Raid

B &B Messabout, October Mid Month, Gathering

Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival, First Weekend of October, Gathering

Hello, Bob,

Thanks a lot, this is great! I just read the whole thread. I very much like the look of your boat and I think it was a great idea, especially since it seems to have worked out very well for you.

I answered in the "CS15 lug yawl" thread since that seemed to be the more suitable place.

Cheers,

Viktor
