yes, and there are multiple spellings of kranz just too make it more obscure and confusing. I think your's looks great, probably another thing that will be added to my to-do list not sure, sorry, I'll try to look it up the side tabs would be attached to the whisker stays. I too search for a location for nav lights (which I have yet to buy). I think if I were to add whisker stays then right at the attachmentts to the bow would be excellent spots for individual color bow lights

BAH! I drove in that strip mall to turn around and didn't see it! TWICE! I wouldn't want to count my chickens before they're hatched but... I'd maybe do web design among other jobs for a company that provides online education curriculum to home school students. I'm trying to figure if and from where I'd be commuting, I haven't tried at rush hour but it's 45 minutes from Alllentown going perhaps too quickly on the Turnpike. I'm going to be lliving in the city off and on for the next 5 years (I'm going to Drexel University) so I should probably start looking at places (although I intend on living in the dorms for the first semester at least).

The job is in Manayunk, it would be a long commute for me. I must have passed West Marine today, I saw the Coast Guard Headquarters. I was looking for 1600 south delaware ave. for Pilothouse Charts but I could not find it, as I went south on Delaware Ave the numbers shrunk and then of course I turned into Chris. Columb., I drove around Philly for maybe 45 mins and eventually took Broad Street going north. I took 611 all the way to Cherry Hill (the one in PA) and on the turnpike the machine wouldn't give me a ticket and I had to pay $13.60 when I got to Allentown. I'll know not to do either of those things in the future. I'll probably just go to West Marine on Saturday when I have to go to down there to pick up relatives from the airport (in town for my graduation).

I have a job interview in the city today. attached is a drawing I made of the boom gallows I intend to build. I don't have a motor so that won't be a problem. yes, that drawing came up a few months ago. I hope to build boom gallows right after I'm done fiberglassing the cabin roof (for some reason I didn't fiberglass it with the rest of the boat). I still have the steam box I'm borrowing and hopefully I can make something I can finish bright and that will look very nice. I'm just wondering... how high should I make it?

That might be too drastic a change in the sail plan for the Weekender. I really think the mast also would need to made significantly taller to add two square sails. Adding an inner jib, outer jib, and foresail to the plan is certainly posible and easily doable. A square sail would require a crewmember to climb the (taller) mast via ratlines or a ladder and I'm not certain that the Weekender is stable enough for a taller mast with people in it. The center of gravity would just be too high for an unbalasted boat. You could maybe try one square sail but I would also be weary of that.

I also am interested in a boom tent, although my modifications were not motivated by that fact they none the less work in rasing the boom. Instead of a more complicated gooseneck you could try boom jaws. The other boom-related modification I hope to add soon is a boom gallows. I planned to post a new thread about them but now that I already brought it up, how high should I make it?

the toe rails are now all sanded down and more or less ready for varnishing. I'm interested in doing a little light cruising this summer. I'm looking at taking the Gail Jean down to the bays surrounding Ocean City, Mamaryland sometime mid-June. I'm wondering what size anchor would be advisable for doing that? Right now I only have a 10lbs mushroom, I remember last year when I moored in Pleasant Bay in Cape Cod I borrowed a 50lbs mushroom. I already have the chain, swivel, schackles, and pick-up buoy. Also where on the Weekender are people securing their anchor lines? Has anyone used the bowspirit bits as mooring bits or wouldn't they be stong enough? I also need to wire. I have 1 battery from an SUV and one car battery already in the forepeak (both 12volt). I ordered a VHF radio from ebay. I think the new design is great. But there are a few things appearing wrong at least on my browser (Mozilla Firefox 0.8, I use Linux on my desktop). On the horizontal link bar on the top the Forums link overlaps the Search link and the Members link. The search link also does not link to search.php but rather the forum. Also on the front page the side bar and the main content elements don't align correctly for me. On the whole I think the new front page is sharp and I'm glad it's updated.

New toe rails: I added a top piece to my toe rail (as discussed at http://www.messing-about.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1273) The wood is red oak that was part of a former communion rail. The wood is in 4' and less sections by maybe 1-/12" by 3/4", it was that long because thats how long the wood rail covers were. Since the stove to the steam box I'm borrowing was inoperable (it was out of propane and no one would refill my outdated tank), the wood was very dry, and I needed to make a bend horizontal to the length of the wood, I soaked all the pieces in warm water for nearly a week (I didn't mean to wait that long, I was trying to get some propane). compare the earlier side view shot with this one: They were attached with screws (I might unscrew them and epoxy them, maybe next season) and afterwards routed and I'm in the process of sanding with the belt sander.
