I just though you guys might be interested in this. I ran across it in my morning ebay surfing (I am not affiliated with this auction).

I am sure you are probably right about it not working with a weekender. It does look extremely cool though.
BUT what if one scaled down the size of the sails to fit the current height of the mast or only a slight height addition to the weekender mast. Do you think it would like right?
While surfing today I happened across this website. I am a book collector so this one might set me back abit.

there's even plans for a cannon

Check it out, and by the way I am in no way connected to this website.
I think I saw ash now that I think about it. I will have to check on my next hardware store trip (about twice a day it seems sometimes). So where do I find linseed oil?
Thanks again,
I am planning on making my own mast hoops. I am wondering if I could use poplar, maple, or red oak for them. These woods are pretty easy to get in my area besides pine.
Thanks for the help, I am going to go with the steel strap instead of the aluminum, no sense in taking any chances.

Building Shadowfax, a Weekender
I finally started building my weekender. Since I live where it is cold I am working on some of the smaller projects. I am wondering if I can substitute aluminum strap around the bottom deadeyes in place of the galvanized iron strap? What do you think?
