Mostly any boat dealer will carry at least a few new trailers. Mine's from a place near Allentown that sells mainly fiberglass powerboats. It's a Load-rite.

When you work on a boat you(at least I do) often picture yourself sailing on the water and having fun. When you work on a trailer you picture yourself stuck in traffic.

Looks like an enjoyable project to have at a camp. I like the parrot figurehead. It looks like they spent a long time studding the rigging lines of a fully rigged ship. If they really wanted to have fun they could make a Revenue Cutter or the something to go hunt it down. Since it's made of roofing felt I wonder how long it will actually last. I remember someone telling me a story of how he would build a boat every year out of maybe plywood and tar or something like that and used it until it fell apart (I think this was in Florida). If they want it to last longer they should put shingles on the roofing paper :roll: .

I know someone who is building a carvel planked yawl that will be using dynel on the deck. Applied with epoxy. It's compairable to canvas in look and feel and has the grip. Canvas and epoxy would probably work too although I haven't heard of it. I'm not entirely sure how the canvas was applied to the decks in the days of yore. Perhaps it was just streched on like felt over a pool table and schelacked. You might have some better success and longevity if you went with dynel. I know Raka sells it if you are looking for a supplier.

I demand my congressman and the surgeon general place warnings on all products containing, made with, or made in machines that are cooled by dihydrogen Monoxide. We have gone too far as a society not to have serious restrictions and warnings about this. Can you believe that there are no laws prohibiting transporting this stuff on our nation's highways and interstates?!?!

I'm also wondering what happened to the mast? Why is it down?

This has been something that I've been wanting to do for a while down. I think what I'll end up doing is having the aft block of the boom be a double with a becket and have the one on the deck be a double with the line running out into a cleat.

Ivan is all the way up here now, albeit much slower and weaker. I woke up this morning to find a small river where my street normaly is and a few local roads and highways closed at river crossings. Driving to work this afternoon I noticed on the turnpike, "Where'd all those leaves go?". At one point in the drive it looked like someone exloaded some sort of mud bomb buried in an embankment, because it was everywhere but the side of the hill.

My parents met in Michigan (the both worked for Dow in Midland), my mother hated it because it would sometimes snow on her birthday (in May). When they got married they promptly moved to California. Now they live in Allentown (where I was born as well), the weather I can't really complain about, other than the ski season being too short, but the allergies are terrible!

I bought one very similar looking (probably the same manufacturer) for about that price on the boardwalk of Ocean City, MD. I also found a good deal on some other nauctical gifts and got a very nice model of a large gaff rigged sloop on the cheap. It was time consuming to sort through all the junk and find the bargins though, I must have visited nearly every gift shop.

Maybe you could fine a seafood restaurtant in need of a lawn ordiment. (are there any there?)

The school district even used to have the first day of deer season as a school holiday. The district used to be mostly rural but now it is mostly housing developments. I'm not sure if they still have off.

I've been meaning to post pictures of the status of the dory I'm building but my computer keeps crashing when I try to edit the photos. The boat has been 3d for maybe a month now and the inside chines are filleted and taped and the outside chines are rounded and taped. On my weekender I've added an electrical system, a fores'l, splash coaming, battery mount in the forepeak, new hatch, rerouted the sheets to the cabin roof, glassed the cabin roof, painted the cabin and deck (although unfortunatly I made the mistake of touching it up at night, when of corse, I could not tell the paint was one shade off color). I've also had an unsuccessful crusing attempt in the Weekender and made the realization that I need either oars or auxillary power, since having just a paddle is not enough.

That looks great! Are you going to fly that as your private signal?

That should read "the former" and "the latter" 6" per foot LOA you also might want to think about puting a swivel at the anchor and also having a storm anchor or a float to help absorb shock in rough conditions.

Now that I'm home I can check the book. It indeed reads 150' rode, 3/8"size, with a 3/16" sized chain at 10' long (1/2' chain per LOA). It recomends either twisted or 'double-braided' nylon line, the former for its elasticity and the former for its resistance to twisting and kinks. It should have a thimble spliced on an end and shackle to attach it to the chain. Keep the shackle pin lubricated so it does not sieze but put a cable tie through the hole in the pin to prevent it from it working out. The book recomends making marks a little further apart than I did, 20'.

I would fly it on the leech of the mains'l on a flag halyard with a block on the peak of the gaff. This would be where one flys the US Ensign but the principle of flying a Jolly Roger might null and void any national flag and would be appropriate in its place (particularly if it is rectangular). If you want to fly it as a courtesy flag use the starboard shroud. If it is triangular or split-tailed in shape then fly it from the top of the mast.

If I recall correctly, "Chappman's Piloiting" recomends 150'. If you follow the 1:5 ratio (1' depth to 5' rode) then I would make a mark every 5' (I put a piece of duct tape) so you know how much rode to pay out.

I used Frank's method for my topping lift (THANKS!). Traditionally there are two, one for each side so that the leeward side would be slacked on that particular tack so that it would not interfear with sail shape.
