I have a CS 20 that has masts that are too short. How to make them longer??? Do I do it at the foot or at the top?? What material?

HI: I would like to contact Graham with this question, but I no longer can located his phone number or email address. I have a CS 20 t(Ketchup) that has had the masts replaced with a internal sail tracks. The track is plastic with the opening slot 7/16 wide and the internal deminision measures 13'16. 'The slides are metal and appear to"almost" chrome plated. My question is: will the new plastic sides that would come with new sails work on this track????Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hoe wide are the slides. In other words, I need to know if I ordered new sails, would the slides work on my sail track.Also, in my last post, I mentioned that my slides were Stainlees Steel. Wrong, they are polished aluminum.

I have a CS 20 (Katchup) and the previous owner, not the builder, somehow destroyed the original masts. He had new ones made and they have a sail track very similiar to the one that Graham has introduced The sail slides are stainless steel and they look like the one plastic ones that Graham is using.The track it self is held to the mast by sliding on short pieces of the old style stainless steel sail track, placed aprox 2" apart. I have not tried to take this apart, but it appears that new sail track would just slide off the short pieces of stainless steel track. It looks a bit overkill. I have not had a chance to try it out as the weather here Buffalo, NY area) has been really bad.

I can vouch for this boat in as much I am the one that Two Daughters Boat Works built it for. Nothing but the best materials and workmanship. Originally Herrshoff Green, the color has been changed. and a bit more hardware added. Thjs is a great buy for someone who wants the best but does not have the time to build. Regards, MickG

Tom: Your posting implies that there is a diagram included to show the mizzen sheet arrangement that you prefer. As an old Lightning sailer, I have no problem changing the main sheet, but the mizzen somewhat confushes me. HELP The digram would help a lot. Thanks, Mick

Looking at an old post, I saw that some one had requested information on designing and building wishbone sprits for the CS boats. The only reply he got a suggestion that he go to this forum. Hi: I started to find the article concerning the building of Blue Peter, a Lapwing. The internet says they can't find the piece. Anyway, what I am really looking for is an answer tot he question of frames vs no frames for a glued (epoxy) lapstrake boat. It would seem to me that they would be overkill and not needed. A few months ago there was a posting concerning the bulding of Blue Peter, a Lapwing B & B design. I can no longer bring it up. In fact, the "Internet " says they can't find it. My reason for wanting to look at it is that I am compteplating having a glued lapstreake boat built, but the plans indicated frames. Hi: Again, thanks to all that answered my mast lengthening questions. This past weekend, we had a break in the weather and I got a chance to measure the masts. The main is 22 ft and the mizzen is 21 ft, 5 in, so I believe that I will be alright with the masts at their present length. Thanks again. Regards, Mick

Howard: The first CS 20 that I had had a mizzen sail that the clue almost reached the deck when sheeted in on a close haul tack. When it was built, (2007) there seemed to be some confusion as to the proper length of the masts. To the best of my recollection, the mizzen mast was slightly less than 20ft. I have acquired another one (boat), but have not been able to step the masts due to weather conditions (Buffalo NY) And I don't know for sure the lengths of the masts.. Boat is stored and mostly inaccessable untill Spring. I do understand the effect of raising the masts and sails higher then neccessary. I wanted to have a plan ready ito incase I needed to lengthen the masts, come Spring. Thank you for your suggestions and advice. If any one has any more thoughts, they would be most welcome. I am replying to an old post, but here goes. To keep rodents (mice, rats, etc) out of stored boast, cars, trucks. place some dryer sheets inside the vehicle or boat. I formally used moth balls, but they are a pain to pick up The dryer sheets work just as well and are much easier to pick up. If there is any doubt as what dryer sheets are, ask you wife or girlfriend. Regards, Mick.

Thanks to all that replied. All of the ideas that were presented seem workable. What I am now thinking of doing is to get some 2" OD tubing and butt it up to the present top of the mast(2). Then, obtain another piece of tubing (pipe?) with an OD slightly too large to go inside the 2" mast and the addition. I would then machine that piece to an OD that would be a "snug" fit inside the mast and it's extension. I would either epoxy or pop rivite the pieces togeather (or both) Any comments???? I am considering lenthening the mast on my CS 20 to increase headroom. Is it better to increase them at the top or the bottom. My present masts are alujminum.Would one make an aluminum "sleve" to fit inside the mast and the extension?/
