Very nice. That stern is going to be beautiful. I am, once again, in awe of your craftmanship. So, the caulking doesn't work loose? Are you using 5100 or something else? (gosh I love picking your brain :wink: )

Thanks Oyster, I didn't want to take the thread either but that picture raised too many questions in my mind. Are you building as you go (you seem to have a nack for that) or do you have some model/picture/idea your building from? From my reading, not practical experiance, it looked like that was the perfect setup for planking. Have fun and do keep us poor wannabes in the loop. :wink:

You might re-think making the gunwales permanent. I did that and now I'm wondering if that is such a good idea. They have taken a heck of a beating so far and I've been thinking about how I'm going to have to replace them. The top ones particulary seem prone to getting torn up from docks, even with bumpers. Just my two cents.

Oyster, Are you going to plank the stern or use ply? Wow, what a challange, did you steam that?

My wheel didn't fit, spokes hit the seats...I eneded up just shortening the spokes about 1/2 inch. Works find now, just had to refinish the ends. :wink:

Barry's right Noel. Come on an join us if you can!!! I plan on getting there about 10:00. Barry has to leave at the latest 5:00, but if the wind is up I plan on staying longer. Mondays are great, fewer stinkpots and pwc's. 8)

Went up to Barry's neck of the woods Saturday to picnic with the grandkids and do a little sailing. Interesting day. Arrived and when lifting the mast found I had lost the pin. Being the resourceful person I am I used a bolt, no problem, I'm 8) . Couple of runs with family members then back at the dock. I had lesson number 8 from cap jake's list. Possible lesson number 9 and 10; The Sound gets deep fast and it is really cold when you dive in from the dock. (no I never did touch bottom.)Whilst waiting for the locksmith to arrive to cut me a new key...don't ask me why I only had one key...I thought that since the wind had pick up I'd go back out again and let swmbo handle that end. Back at the boat I found my son in law holding the boat from the dock and the mast down, funny, thought I, I had left the mast up. I was informed that the mast had fallen, narrowly missing his head and bouncing off his back. Checking the forestay I found that the barrel had separated from the eye bolts on the turnbuckle...humm, guess I didn't tighten down the turn buckle. (Possible lesson #11, double check the rigging before launch.) I figured no harm done until I found that the barrel had joined the keys at the bottom of the Sound. After retrieving the boat I did have a bit of good luck. I found the mast pin next to the trailer tire...btw, I reparked in a different place :shock: :? What's that old saying? "May you live in interesting times"?

lesson 8. Don't pass your car keys to the wife from the boat to the dock without a float attached. :roll: :oops: found that out yesterday.
