I will be finishing up my CS17 Peggy-O this spring and I am starting to think about next project, and want to sign up for a summer wooden boat class 1/1/14 relevant to the next boat. I definitely want a powerboat with some speed for purpose of pleasure boating and going with a couple couples to lunch and cruising around the Gulf of Mexico near my home in SW FL. I am not into fishing and likely will never be...... My questions/ concerns about the OK20 is is it really designed as a fishing boat and is it comfortable for four or six people to cruise around? I can't really find any pictures that show the interior with seating. I like its speed, weight, gas efficiency/small motor for the speed, the cold molded building design as new experience and the fact that Graham designed it. Thanks Lennie Quote

Ken_Potts Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Since you're not worried about fishing I bet you could change the seating layout to accommodate the extra guests for the picnic. Just make sure you don't add any weight since you want to go fast. Maybe you could make a drop-in seat for when you had the extra couple on board. Hopefully an Ocracoke 20 builder will share some interior photos. Quote
LennieG Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Great points. I think the outer banks has features that are not big for me like cabin, and it sacrffifices speed. I think you nailed it Ken re mods and I will proceed down that road. I suspect the resale of OK20 would be stronger as well. A friend made a good point that maybe I should enjoy the cS17 for a bit before jumping into next build (thanks Steve). I have signed up for the Cold Molded Construction at WBS this summer and will proceed leisurely and build when ready. Quote

You may want to contact him about this. He can give you good advice about which boat would be best to you, and maybe make design changes for you. Quote
nzlance Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The ocracoke will handle 4-6 people no probs. They ride and beautifully and are powered by a relatively modest amount of hp considering the size of the boat. ( and they are a big 20 ft boat) The build us quite straight forward and very strong. One thing I really liked about the hull was the chine detail whereby the chine is part of the hull, not a strip of timber tacked on the outside , it just looks better even though the caroliner lines have still been kept. They are a great boat. Well designed, strong, functional and good looking. If you are up to the build.... Which isn't hard , but will require a big commitment , then go for it. You won't be disappointed. Quote
