There's a boatbuilding school in Cedarville??

I'll be on Drummond Island in September to drag fake fish around Lake Huron.

I hope I can find time to check it out.....

This statement deserves some kind of clever response, I just can't think of a good one right now  ;D

The Chicago to Mackinaw Island race has turned out to be one of the slowest in history. A few boats made it in to the harbor late Monday evening, and most are not expected in until Wednesday.  They left on late Friday night, early Saturday morning.  We gave up and came home from Mackinaw on Monday.

Greg, you don't happen to have any pics of the jib sheet cleating arrangement on your boat, do you?

I've rigged mine as a spritsail sloop and have established the jib sheet leads, but I need to know how to cleat them off. If I sailed singlehandedly exclusively, I'd just run them to the c/l by the helm position and be done. But my wife does not like the sheets cutting into her space. So, what was your solution?

I only have the plan set right now, so no pics of the actual installation yet.

Typical for me, a month later I am just fabricating and installing the tiller. It is made from white oak, then coated with a mix of turpentine and boiled linseed oil, then two coats of gunmetal stain. I will let it dry overnight, then in the morning start applying coats of spar varnish. I think it will look better finished brite and matching the gunwhales. My hope is to start applying topcoat on the interior, plus some non-skid on the sole, in the morning.

We have been traveling again this summer which chews up time that could have been spent on the Spindrift, but I am not dissatisfied with the progress, all things considered. :)

Congrats. Looks great. When is launch day?

May 2008, which it did not make, and now I am reluctant to guess anymore. It is hoped in about a week or two. There are some parts still on back order from B&B. I want to give the paint a few days to completely harden, then roll her over again and start working on the mast and rigging. It needs the fore stay and shrouds made up too. Then I think she will be ready, so maybe next weekend if the weather is good. The trailer heeds to be re-registered and tagged as well.

Thanks to you and John for the compliments. I was worried about the color scheme and did not finally choose the hull color until this morning. It is Pettit's Bikini blue, a two part paint. I used top paint as there is no intent to keep her in the water which precluded the need for bottom paint.

Greg, she looks sweet. Could you tell me how you made the cut-out for the bailer. In the end, I decided not to rebate it into the hull as I was afraid of overdoing it through ignorance.

Hansom project Greg.  That blue will look good out on the water with the fall colours.  Your bailer picture reminded me that I too should install the bailer before I flip the hull over.  Until now I have been guessing at how to install the thing and worry about getting it right.  No directions came with the box.  Another picture or two of the installation would be useful to me.

I have been surprised by how useful the Dremmel has been for the build.  Most recently used a little sanding drum to shape the plastic sail track stop.
