Oyster Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I went exploring along the shallows today with lite winds because the day was just too fine to sit at home and miss the best of the best. No one even close to break to quiet and solitude while ghosting along watching the shore birds pick at the sandbar that was filled with scallops this time of year. I went right by myself and sat on the bar and had a mid afternoon snack and thought of you guys. Enjoy, as this was just a pretty day today. Quote

Craig Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Wish I had been there. Gray and a bit of rain here... I did bring the boat back up from Tucson yesterday so may get some repairs started soon. We still need a house that will take all the toys. Sure glad I didn't sell the place in Florida. PHXSUX! 8) Quote

Craig, I can't fathom how someone that lived in and around the pearly white sandy beaches would take thy bed and move it unless it was truely one of those chances of a lifetime and an offer that you couldn't refuse. Capt. Jake, she was gone about as long as you have been gone from the water, even with both of you guys having a driveway full of boats. ;D ;D I guess the number can only be surpassed by me come to think about it. If there is any consulation, this week lends itself to another chance to wonder about for a few hours on the water if I get my dishes done early enough. Someone must take up the slack from you slackers. ;D You know you should make sure the cobwebs are not allowed to form inside those idled hulls. Craig I hope you get your boat back in working order before too long. You only have a narrow window to get back on the water before the crematory heats up. Quote
capt jake Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I have been busy with house remodeling (again), landscaping and refurbishing a small tractor. Work has been extremely busy for me, so I enjoy some sort of project to take me away for a bit. Here is a link to a few pictures of the tractor. A tiny thing, but it has been a lot of fun, and I am still not done with it. I have had to sharpen my welding skills again. Craig Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Neat tractor Jake. Cornbinder by the looks of the logo. Mike I have reinstructed my realtor to bring me rentals to look at. The Arizona I loved and remembered is long gone. The good deal here was a promotion I couldn't get in Fla. That takes one year minimum to hold which will be up on 15 Aug. I spoke to the Director back at Eglin last week and he says I can come home with my promotion any time. He even asked what it would take to buy out my contract out here. I know he has some severe problems that he thinks I am the answer to; however, I am more water baby than desert rat and Bob's problem projects are nothing new. I would look for a spring/summer cruise on Choctawhatchee Bay were I all you southeasters. Jake, S and I had all kinds of plans for renovations before this Az deal came up. I kept the house in Fla. My youngest and his Mom did some of the work before she left so the rest is waiting on our return. I could use that tractor in my landscaping efforts. Want to come east and help?? Quote

Smiley Would love to, but the remodeling here is going to keep us here (meaning no travel) for a while. It is a cornbinder, but there are way more of them available on the East coast than he West. The Fla house backs up to the reservation and as a fire break we cleared about a 1/4 acre area behind the house and planted srubs and flowereing trees etc. It gets to be a bit much to take care of with shovel, barrow , and walk behind mower. That tractor would be just the ticket. Plus it looks like another fun toy!!! ;D Quote

In my case, I really only needed some thing small like this, but the bigger 'real' tractors aren't that much more expensive in reality. 4x4 is a real nice plus, if you plan on using it a lot. I had a Yanmar 1510d prior to this. It was very nice, but more tractor than I needed. That one, complete with roto-tiller and FEL was only $5500. I am into this one about $2500 already. Quote

I lurk quite alot on the B&B forum because I am liking open boats this last couple of months and I go there to get my fix. Oyster - you are right about needing to keep the cobwebs out of the boat...I have been stood up by my brother a number of times now and Morgaine is still waiting to be flipped . . . Oyster Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 Sorry guys, mowing and cutting grass and weeds in the finest equipment known to the industry doesn't get it for me. ;D If I wanted to ride a mechanical bull I would wonder down to my local suds hall or I could have joined the PBR circuit. ;D With me Adla the real underlying issue is just being on the water in almost anything as its just an addiction for me, a serious one indeed. But its really a plus when its on something that you built that gives me a serious high. The boat is not some pedigree but fits me. Maybe the real reason is I just don't know any better. HEHE! Heck I have a better idea, since Craig is AWOL in Florida, we have a free place along the sandy shores of the gulf. Whats say???? ;D Quote
adla Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 A couple of years ago my sister and her husband were going to pick up and move to North Carolina and take my parents with them.... ??? I don't know what happened to that plan but they are all still here. I don't blame you for being addicted to that water...you sail some of the prettiest water I've seen. I can't wait to get back out on the boat again...it was almost warm here today. The winter sun is real harsh here...if it isn't raining it can be really nice. Bud clued me about the photo of the Saralee in SCA so now she must be made to look that good again. Damn boats are like kids, once you have them you are obligated to keep them and look after them. Steve Day Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Mike, Once again, you have provided pictures of a fine sailing day. It's good to see Popsicle out on the water again. I, too, have been out sailing on Mobile Bay. We were out yesterday with the Sea Scout boats taking a mission team from Illinois out for a sail as a small reward for their work at a church over in Mobile with half of the team on each of the two boats. One is a Catalina 36 and the other a Bristol 40. When we got out on the water, I realized I had not brought the camera. > I was on the Catalina and could have had some really nice pictures of the Bristol. She is sure a pretty boat!
