Lookin' sweet! Boy, I wish I could have convinced SWMBO to let me build this! This is one fine boat. I still have the plans, maybe someday......... :shock:

I have to agree with Jake, Charlie. Wow, what a boat. But probably too much for me to take on now (the only consolation I can take is that I am enjoying my work that is taking up all my time; I do miss building and sailing though).

Been traveling a lot lately and missed you guys. But I checked out you link to the updates. NIce work indeed. What did you use in your lockers for the white stuff? Spring has sprung and I have gotten a free Marco Polo pram to update,[speeled redo or use for patterns to build new] so I have put my cs20 project on hold since I am funding it with my fish boat money now. Gotta a trip to Seattle mid may, if all goes as planned to visit a ship builder that is completing a 150 footer out there. So a busy summer is in store for me.

Oyster- the paint I use inside boats, and have been using for many years now, is an acrylic latex enamel. I was giving a brand but I've found out that the specific paint I use is only sold in three states- Texas, Louisiana and Alabama (go figure).

What I use is Sherwin Williams Incredi-Coat. I'm sure other paint companies have something comparable though. But be certain it's an ACRYLIC ENAMEL and not the old style latex.

I only use this inside cabins - outside I tend toward 2 part polyurethanes for trailerable boats, although for small boats I've had some really good luck with the various Porch and Deck enamels.

I've done four boats with Brightsides and I literally hate the stuff.

What's your favorite for outsides?

Charles, there should be a law against Brightsides. Anymore, if a hull is glassed, I will use Sterling or awlquip. The amount of time spent in sanding and fairing glass, for about 150 dollars, I can paint anything under 20 feet and it last for trailered boats, as long as a big buildup of primer is under it. I spray three coats or roll and tip two coats over a well faired hull. Dark colors require three but with the working properties can be done without any other prep work betwen coats. The mess that brightsides has created for me is just not worth the effort. In the overall skeem of things, you save in costs 100 dollars in a new boat. Yes it takes some experience in the two part paints. BUt anyone can check with their local body shop and most will even spray it after the prep work is done for a small fee in their booths.

Charlie, those pictures are great. It gives me a chance to see how things should look. Question: when you use the acylic latex enamel, do you use a primer first or paint directly on the epoxied surface?

John- I usually use the old Sherwin Williams Anchor Bond primer or KILZ II. They've changed that name and I don't know what the new one is. The KILZ II is the water based Kilz. I don't use regular KILZ in boats- it's an oil based primer.

I use the Sherwin Williams stuff on somewhat shiny fiberglass when I'm working inside an existing boat, or the KILZ II otherwise.

I have been using the Kilz with the anti-mildew additive, water based with good success, also. I used the Kilz oil based last year with good success too. Either seem to make good primers.

Hia....a question for all of you. I have done some mods and repairs to my plywood boat. Glassed with polyurethane. Although there is still some old Interlux enamel on a good amount of the remaining hull, i want to repaint a different color and a different paint. I heard ....or rather, read, what Charlie said about porch or deck enamels being ok. I like the sound of this. I live in a remote area and can't get any fancy paints unless mail ordered. I have access to General paints and they have a porch enamel. Anyone tried this? I wonder what undercoat might be ok? Any advice is welcome. I will be painting by next weekend.

Kiltz works great as a wood and even glass primer under a good porch and deck enamel. Be careful when applying in open air conditions. It has a tendancy to dry quickly and lap. Sanding it is difficult when not applied smoothe. I use a short nap roller, mohair type, and even will thin it with mineral spirits for multiple recoats. Let dry thoroughly, Inside closed conditions, fumes are a little tuff on family and friends using the oil base blend. On the label it states that it is for interior use, but has been very successfull in applications of wooden boats and priming fiberglass that has been faired with microballons and sanded glass also.

Make sure the epoxy resins are fully cured and prepped and go for it. If your good paint store has a mildew inhibitor such as M-1, mix a ounce or two at most per gallon. If using the [sorry] Brigthsides. Kiltz will work as primer under it also. If you use a regular oil base primer under it, Brightsides will mildew bigtime though. This is the nature of the paint and Interlux will sometimes not tell you this. But the label says to use their Brightsides primer which is high dollar stuff and is mostly the same base as Kiltz. Check the ingredients label if you have the two cans also.

Make sure you alllow for the porch enamel to cure before placing it into service. The nature of the paint is such that it is more soft as it has more solids in it for durability.

I have been prowling around this forum for whatever I can find about the Belhaven and the Princess 22 because I am trying to decide what my next build will be. Scott has graciously given me information on his Belhaven and I'm now checking out the Princess.

I'm very interested to see your photos of the Princess under construction but it seems the links to them do not work for me. Is there a way I can see the pictures?
