Calendar Poll: Still Interested?

Is anyone still interested in the messing-about.com Calendar, even with it being three months late?

My time is finally freeing up, and I may be able to finish the pre-production work this weekend. Certainly by the end of the month. But I'm thinking with 1/4 of the year already gone, the interest might not be there.

Suggestion:

Do just a first edition of messing-about first edition of amateur projects. I would think this would be a nice gift and will draw some interest of even newcomers, when coming on the board for inspiration that springs up a lot of ideas for their own boats or new dream projects. It would not be as seasonal for the work involved.

P.S. I am having a hard time fitting in that little box under the moniker. :wink:

Maybe a calendar that is 1/2 year off (July - June) from what everybody else makes. That way you could have time to get it done and the work would be in the winter/spring rather than the "high" sailing season of late summer/early fall.

I am using the 2004 calendar with last year's pictures and enjoy it nearly every day. It is nice to look at other projects that have been successful to inspire me to be diligent and complete my boat.

I'm with Bob, well sort of. I never think to check a watch to get a date, can never find my pocket calendar and am almost always sure that I have the dates mixed up (triple scheduling is not rare). But what I really love are the pictures. And another calendar can't hurt, right?

I have not found another economical source for the calendars that would allow me to do a April - May type of version; the cost goes up prohibitively after you get into anything custom ($2500 plus for 250 of them on a minimum order.) The Cafepress calendar is a one-off type of thing, so they don't mind if you have only 10 sold, but they can't customize it as far as the months go.

If I can get the pre-production stuff done before my vacation, it will be a go. Otherwise I'll have to skip it for this year

Maybe you could produce a CD with a lot of boat pictures from all our projects and the many things folks have posted here? I would buy it if it was in the price range of the calander.

You could buy a very nice printer and print them yourself for a whole lot less than that ... just a thought. :8

Simon, then Frank would have to do the mailing and he's already in a time crunch. Just assembling a large number of calendars can be a pain. The Sunday School at our church makes a calendar from the kids drawings every year as a fund raiser. Asking for volunteers to assemble and distribute the thing is a great way to clear a room. :?

I threw out another suggestion to him in several other mails. If this is a real dollar issue, then for the group that may wish this for wall art and or computer screen backgrounds, just e-mails them to registered members this year. Most of us have computer printers, and we could use portrait paper to print the ones that we wish till next year. I don't know the legal part of that, but this was a late night brain-------.. Hope most folks are surviving the winter. I know I am ready for warmer days.

The Cafe Shops calendar I use is a "one-off" design, so that if no one buys one, I'm not out anything. If two sell, they print two, and messing-about.com gets a 10% commission. So its the kind of risk I like ... very low!

But they aren't flexible about the starting month. I'm hopelessly behind now so I think we'll let it go until later this year, and we'll go for a 2005 calendar.

I agree with Jan 2005, but try to have them ready early for Christmas delivery. I think you will get a much better response.

I think they need to be ready even earlier than Christmas. No later than Dec. 1 for ordering and Dec. 7 for delivery starts. Ordering in November for early Dec. delivery makes even better sense from a marketing point of view.

I usually get all our calenders free, but would certainly purchase one of Frank's as a vote to encourage and thank him. Get one out in the next month and I will still buy one.
