If this isn't as far away as I could have possibly come from were I was when I started the Weekender, I don't know what is. :roll:

But it is a "project boat". I ordered it minimally equipped on purpose.

...and she says I can do what ever I want to it, as long as it's ready to take her out on weekends. :wink:

Let's face it. Buying was the only way I was ever going to get on the water! :shocked!:

It looks good to me ... it floats, and it looks like you could spend a minute or two fishing from it.

Maybe you could paint some woodgrain on the bottom, just to fool the fish!

Is that sail rigged correctly? Looks just a little skimpy on the amount of sail area too. But then I'm not at all up on the new sail shapes.

Well some other of us also have strayed. It was a beautiful night for boat building but I was lured away by fellow jet boaters. (We captin Welded aluminum boats with 150 hp jets to navigate the twisting shallow rivers). We spent the whole afternoon and evening running one of our favorite Alaskan rivers (the Tannana River and Saltjacket Slough) We saw bull moose, cranes, Flights of ducks, and a few week old Canadian Gosling came stumbling up to us across a great sand bar. We fished but with out conviction in the heat, a super cub flew a pass or two over head exploring the wilderness. There was much blood donated to the misquitos and other adventures that only a group of guys away from the sensibilities of the women could think up, but I not stray that far off of the thread.

So a breather from boat building will put some spark back into it at the next session.

Who says we need only one typw of entertainment? I bought a twin engine Yamaha Jet Boat last year and I am beginning my Weekender hopefully in a week or so. Sometimes we need a little nostalgia to balance out the technology that is out there!! Enjoy the water.

I must agree, I have a half share in a small powerboat - I guess it will be a good safety for that first sail once my weekender is in the water.. and on all the windless days we can rip up the calm water with wakeboards and waterskiis...

I spent three years convincing my wife that plastic tubs are less fun than hand crafted sailboats, she finally let me build one and it's almost done ... then you go and do this! :shock: What am I supposed to tell her if she stumbles upon it?

Ah well, I'm committed now (or should be). Enjoy the boat, looks like it should be fun.

Careful Bruce! Careful, careful, careful! My friend and fishing buddy had a Carolina Skiff and kept it at his condo on Pine Island. It corners perfectly ALMOST all the time. That flat bottom is the culprit. One time, just out of the blue, you'll turn the wheel, the bow will come around, but the boat will just keep going straight! ....right into the mangroves!.......hurts.

On the plus side, that rascal will run in water others only dream of!

I just got a ride in my friend's family's power boat today on a lake in the Poconos. Power boats can be quite fun. Unfortunatly we made one loop and the oil pressure was looking low and the engine tempature high. The lake is an artificial, pretty big for around here, but too many powerboats and jet skis, otherwise it might be good to sail on when I'm done too.

They've made some improvements on the hulls, but the flat bottom still has it's limitations. Thanks for the warning, Gordy.

So Russ, You gonna sail that thing up the river, over the lake, and across the state? Or are you gonna go the long way, down through the Keys? 8)

Actually, my tub is gonna be a dive/snorkle boat more than a fishing boat. I've already installed a swim ladder and scuba tank racks.

Oh, and just in case you think I didn't know... "Fogive" is spelled F-O-R-G-I-V-E.

Hey Bruce, At least it says "Carolina" on it! And that rudder looks too small and misshapen. You'll have a fine time with it, but do beware the highspeed turn problem when there's only an inch or so of boat in the water. Turn gently and she'll do fine.

I was out painting my lovely Weekender this morning. Almost done, maybe three weeks to go. The cockpit seats are the last thing, really. I've been procrastinating there because I dread glassing the complex shapes in that tight area. :!: Just finished the toerails and rubrails. The lower rubrail was not easy. A 16' x 1x2 is easily broken! (I broke 2)

I'll have more pics up soon, and will drop you an email when they're ready.

Well, well, well.

Look what the cat dragged in, it's old Bruce Kershaw and a plastic boat. For SHAME, grasshopper, for SHAME...

You have only one recourse to save your soul: and that is to allow me to come review this *ahem*... "watercraft", and verify that it is truly worthy as a dive vessel. Thus, I shall be bringing my dive gear and giving your boat a full review this summer.

Have the thing fueled up and in tip-top shape, ready to take me to your local dive spot. I'll be expecting at least one shallow wreck dive, and a variety of fish during the review.
