Peter, I’m not sure how this video stuff works. Last time I posted videos some people could see them but some could only hear them. It was something to do with the type of device or app? they were viewed in. I know thats probably not much help ,I’m just a tradie, I only know how to fix things by hitting them with a hammer...maybe someone else can help. cheers John

G’day, last weekend, the Sydney RAID group cruised Port Hacking (Australia). A variety of sailing dinghy’s attended, I sailed my CS17. Port Hacking is my home port, which made it easy for me, some people traveled quite a distance to attend. We sailed out offshore on Saturday in perfect winter conditions, light breeze & sunny. We saw dolphins & a lone seal. Had lunch back in port at Jibbon Beach and then headed up river to a beautiful calm anchorage surrounded by bushland. That’s a great “lazy jack” setup. I’ll try it on my prototype wishbone booms (lengthened sailboard booms). I think eventually I’ll build some nice wishbone booms like Peters.

Looks like a great trip. I like sailing with my daughter as well, it’s a special time.

Great build mate, very pretty boat. I think I might copy your wishbone booms. Do you think alternate Tasmanian oak, western red cedar laminates would work?

I used a similar product on my CS17, called Coppaboat (Australian product) The application was fairly easy. The epoxy copper mix needed to be stirred before loading the paint roller each time, as the copper powder is so heavy it quickly drops to the bottom of the paint tray. Then once cured it was burnished to expose the copper particles. So far it seems good, just needs a wipe with a sponge once a month to remove any slime. The Mathew Flinders looks like being a really capable boat, great build.

G’day, I camped out on my new CS17 on the weekend. This is my set up. I made a small floorboard for the front area of the cockpit, that can also be used to fill in from the centre board case platform back to the mizzen mast thwart. Rails glued to the seat uprights support the floorboard (which I understand you would rather not use). My swag (bed roll) just fits in under the canvas dodger. I think I will make up a awning to cover the rest of the cockpit to provide more shelter. Hope this helps

G’day On Good Friday I launched my Core Sound 17 named Gira-Gira (which is the local indigenous peoples word for seagull) Over the Easter holiday; my wife and I motored comfortably around Port Hacking. On Sunday I sailed with full rig ,offshore in 8kn to 12kn breeze & small swell. The boat was very stable to windward & surfed easily downwind. On Monday I sailed on enclosed waters in a 15kn to 18kn breeze. Under full rig she planed beautifully, gybing down wind. She then sailed comfortably with one reef in the main & mizzen upwind, tacking up a narrow channel against the incoming tide. I would like to thank Graham for designing such a wonderful boat. The incredible amount of thought & attention to detail that has gone into the design only revealed itself during the build & in finally sailing the boat. Also a big thanks to Alan for sending me the measurements for installing the dagger board case. It’s spot on. Nicely balanced helm with slight weather helm when heeled. Gira-Gira will be berthed at our community wharf and used by my wife & I as a day sailor, picnic boat. I also have plans for some solo challenging coastal cruising. Cheers John

Joe Anderson Sorry for being so late responding to your post, I missed it somehow. You are right I have changed a few things from the plans. The dagger board is the main one, this is why; I already had a rudder blade off a Elliott 770 which was the right size for the CS17 centreboard so that saved building one. This boat will be kept in the water at a jetty, the dagger board case will be easier to clean off the marine growth inside the case. Where I sail the dagger board won’t be a problem. I did consult with Alan & he very kindly sent images & dimensions for the centre of effort, to place the dagger board case. The raised and extended aft seat; This was mainly so I can hang an outboard motor off the back without needing a bracket or well. The seat was extended forward to make storage for the fuel tank & a stern anchor underneath and get the weight of these further forward in the boat. I put a part bulkhead in to support the centreboard case and filled the forward seat in to create more storage and a sleeping platform. I extended the forward mast tube above the foredeck and made a fibreglass boot on the main mast to go over the tube to help keep water out of the mast tube (it also has a drain hole). This is again because this boat will be kept rigged on the water. John

Hi Nick I’m in Maianbar NSW. Good to hear of another CS17 in Oz. The original plan for this boat was to launch by Xmas & then head down your way & sail in the Tawe Nunnugah 2021. Well that didn’t happen... I’m only a few weeks away from launching, picked the sails up yesterday and have mostly just the masts to rig and a few other things... Maybe we can catch up some time, the plan is still to get to Tas & do some cruising. John

Todd, I’d make a lengthwise cut in the tube to get it off the pole (if you start at one end & progressively cut & try to remove it, you may get it off without having to cut the entire length). Then clean it up & put another couple of layers of glass around the outside.

G’day, the last couple of weekends I have, undercoated the topsides, antifouled with copper powder epoxy mix and played around with aligning the masts. This weekend I hope to top coat the top sides, fit the gunwales and mast bases.

G’day, I’m John, I enjoy reading all your stories & thought I might chime in. This is my core sound 17 I’m building in Australia. I was attracted to the design by the cat ketch rig, capable seaworthy hull & potential performance. I started In April & am about 300hrs into the build. I hope to launch before Xmas. As well as the work on the hull & deck, the foils & masts have been completed. As the build has progressed I’ve been more & more impressed with the R&D and attention to detail which has gone into the design. I grew up in a sailing family and have raced performance sail boats most of my life. In recent years much of it solo ocean racing . Anyway I’m in my mid fifties now & in the last couple of years have turned more to cruising. I hope to complete some challenging coastal passages in the new boat. Cheers John
