Anyone have experience using the Honda 4-stroke 2 hp as aux. power on their boats? How about another 2 hp? I'm wondering if it's sufficient power for my BRS 17. Any known issues with the Hondas?

What Joel describes as the method used in sloops is what I had in mind. From what I understand, this keeps you out of irons and allows you to tend to other things, such as eat lunch, take a nap, or whatever. The point is for the two sails to work against each other, I think.

Yeah, I found that one too. Looks pretty good and can be bought in long lengths.

How is this done?

I want to make a boat tent for my BRS 17. I want to have a layer of mosquito netting under the water proof barrier. Anyone have a source for this?

I discussed this with Tom Lathrop some time back and I think he said he used an 8 hp on his BRS 15 at times and that it would plane. He said anything greater than an 8 would be too much and speculated that a 9.9 would be about right for the 17. Another BRS 17 builder in Tampa uses a 6hp Tohatsu. He says it won't plane with this. This model is the most hp for its weight. I think it weighs about 60 lbs.

This is half of the answer I'm looking for. I'm surprised they don't regulate sailboats this way. The other half was partly answered by wwbaginksi. How many is too many for safety as far as the strength of the hull?

I'm trying to decide how I will transport my masts while trailering my BRS 17 and how I will stow them when the trailer is parked. I've seen photos of Gordy Hill's PVC brackets and Graham's wooden ones. Is there any consensus on the best or worst systems/methods? My masts are solid wood. Pics would be great.

I'm hoping to launch my BRS 17 this week. It took me quite a bit longer than I expected. I had hoped to finish in 8 months but it's taken about 13. There is a lot of boat in that 17 feet compared to my first build - a 12' rowboat with a seat and foot support. I can't wait to sail her! What make and model engine did y'all go with?

I'm glad you posted this. I was all ready to put my foredeck on, I have even already painted the inside of the locker. I just realized I haven't made a drain for my mast tube!!

How long are the CS 17 masts? The BRS 17's are 18'8". The CS also has 5 more sq. ft of sail area. I'm wondering if the masts for the CS would work on the BRS. My plans did not include any information on birdsmouth spars.

Anyone know if Graham has designed birdsmouth masts for the CS 17 or BRS?

I'm with ya Steve, I can't remember a winter this cold here in S.C. We have another chance of snow this week. Some epoxy I put on a week ago still has not fully cured. I'm beginning to wonder if I mixed it wrong. It really slows progress.

John, how many boats have you built? I wish you'd slow down. You're making me feel very inferior.

I'm thinking of using Davis style oarlocks on my BRS. Does anyone see this as a problem - is it likely to interfere with the sheets?
