  1. At this time of year book lists are all the rage. I have (and love) Aubrey / Maturin, Hornblower, Bolitho and have just found Charles Saunders Hayden (in the book Under Enemy Colors by S. Thomas Russell). But the 2 books to which I keep returning for rereads are: The Compleat Cruiser by L. Francis Herreshoff Sou'West & by West of Cape Cod by Llewellyn Howland How could you compete with those 2 families? Steve
  2. The biggest fear that I have when someone says that a paint job looks like it's sliding is that there was insufficient removal of the amine blush before painting. Sometimes it's not obvious until several (weighty) coats are applied for the job to slide. A customer of mine forgot my strong demand that he go at the blush hard with LOTS of fresh water and a Scotchbrite pad before painting. After the application of the third coat of marine enamel onto the console, the whole job sagged, looking a lot like Richard Nixon's jowls. I hope that this isn't your issue. --Steve
  3. Okay, too much classic literature. To become more contemporary, from Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson on JB's album, "License To Chill"... ... I've got boards to bend, I've got planks to nail, I've got charts to make, I've got seas to sail. I'm going to build me a boat With these two hands. She'll be a fair curve From a noble plan. Let the chips fall where they will, 'Cause I've got boats to build. ... Steve
  4. In today's email from Woodenboat, a notice that Graham and Marissa would be on hand for the Woodenboat Festival in Mystic, CT this June. Combine this with Graham's teaching stint at the Woodenboat school and he's going to be suffering from separation anxiety for Carolina. Congratulations to him for his due recognition and to the members here for our "finding" him before the rest of the world.
  5. My loving wife has said that since I had to stay home and tend to the horses while she went out to Colorado this summer and also couldn't attend CLC's Okoumefest because she had a business commitment that weekend, that I deserved a weekend of fun on/near the water just messing about. I'll be making the trip down from the PA/NY border for the entie weekend, camping at the launch, if still available. Am looking forward to examining the Core Sound series and getting a "tour" of the CNC unit. We had a taste of winter last week, so would really appreciate a return to "summery" conditions, if this could be arranged. See you there. Steve
