Where did you find that hardware??

Oyster- Looks great. I was originally planning a sliding door on Rosie but recently decided to either go with 2 doors or one bifold. The 2 doors looks like a better way to go. Thanks for the post. Ken

Hi All- Here are some pics if ROSIE with her hull painted and Sapele Mahogony rails installed. The motor is sitting in its crate and the trailer should be finished in a few weeks. Hope to drag her out of the shop when the trailer arrives and mount the motor and pilot house. Still much to do but it feels like the worst of the grunt work is behind me. Off to Montana in the morining for a motorcycle trip and break from boat work. Plan to stop in on Richard Bacon in Corvalis, MT and see his OB 20. Ken

Try a small sample patch before giving up the plan.

The epoxy I coated over was SYSTEM 3. It doesn’t blush like WEST so that could explain the differnence between my and Mike's result.

I have had good luck with PreCoat and Brightsides over well cleaned and scuffed epoxy. Your resutls could be different. I just painted ROSIE’s hull with ALEXSEAL and need to paint a black boot stripe. Don’t want to buy another quart of the 2 part stuff just for the stripe and will go the BRIGHSIDES route. I will let you know if there are any problems but, I don’t expect any.

Walter- Not in that particular application but have used it in lots of glue ups, paddles, etc. I did have one paddle delaminate but that was the glue starved joint I mentioned. I always apply the glue to both sides of the joint and make sure there is is enough so that when it soaks into the wood, the joint is not dry. I have lashed a few SOF boats and have been very satisfied. More than one way to skin a boat..... Ken

I have used lots of Titebond 3 in similar situations and it has worked fine. Just be mindful of glue starved joints. That has been my only failure. Ken

Tom- I have no experience with a boat like a Bluejacket or Outer Banks at anchor. I spent years living at anchor on a heavy steel sailboat and always thought the behavior of a boat at anchor was under discussed. A heavy boat with an all chain rode is hard to beat on the hook compared to a light weight boat on a nylon rode. Since I don't really know what to expect from my OB, any insights from the BJ community are appreciated. The reason I bring it up in this thread is I often think of a steadying sail / crane as a way to keep ROSIE well behaved on the hook. Am I over thinking this or does it make sense given your experience? Alex, thanks for checking out those nesting dingys. For what it is worth, 2 Bits was a really good design that rowed fairly well and could handle lots of weight. I also want to check out what Graham from B&B has cooked up. Ken

I am up to my ears with my current build but admit to thinking about the next boat which will likely be a tender for ROSIE. I will certainly take some of my kayaks and surfskis with me at times. With 12 of them hanging in my shed I need my head examined to be thinking of another boat. Years ago I built one of Danny Greens nesting dinghys called 2 bits for my sailboat. It was stolen the first time I used it so I got the opportunity to build another one! Anybody know the difference between the Cameleon and 2Bits design? The nesting dinghy worked great for years when I cruised and was easy to load on the foredeck with a whisker pole used as a hoist. These powerboats don't have that option so some kind of hoist seems like a good idea. I really like the one in the picture Tom posted. Is that made from Aluminum tubing? Anybody have an idea for a small mast that could also work as a steadying sail at anchor?

Towing a dinghy works great in calm water but can be a nightmare when conditions deteriorate. I think you have to have a way to get your dinghy on deck when things get ugly. Love the idea of a skin on frame dinghy. Is it your design Egbert? Looks beautiful. I used a nesting dinghy on my sailboat for years and it was great.

Hi Guys- I pulled the trigger and purchased a new Yamaha VF90SHO for the Outer Banks 26 that I am building. This is the first of the design and this is a new model motor from Yamaha. The motor has a lower unit gear ratio of 2.38:1. The salesman claims this motor puts out almost 115 hp but I am not sure he really knows. When I call Yamaha Tech Help the agent reads the brochure to me and really hasn't had any real life experience with this motor. The OB26 should weigh somewhere between a BJ25.5 and a BJ28. Wondering if you could offer any advice on propeller sizing and type. Thanks! Ken

Hi Guys- I am about to head off for a road/surfski paddle trip to California for a few weeks. All work and no play.... I am already thinking of what I want to get done on Rosie when I return. Will undoubtedly come back with a van load of gear and materials. I completed the forward cabin top and got it glassed yesterday. Been mortising butt hinges and fine tuning the cabinet harware in the pilothouse, etc. Cheers, Ken

HI Guys- Thanks for the input. I am pretty sure I will go with a Yamaha at this point. I was surprised to find out that I can get the Yamaha for less than the Suzuki. That is a reversal from the pricing last year. So here is the remaining question that In am hoping you can guide me on. The choice between the standard 90 and the VMAX. I have asked the salespeople how that VMAX would compare but they don't seem to know. The price difference is only about $300. If the VMAX has more grunt without a big penalty in fuel economy then it is a no brainier. Top speed is not a bit deal to me but having enough power in headwinds and chop makes sense. Maybe Tom can chime in on how his Bluejacket 28 responds with a 90 since the displacement is not that different that the OB26. Ken

Hi Guys, I am about to pull the trigger on an outboard for my OB 26 and would love any input. My knowledge of modern outboards is pretty limited and I am sure most of know more than I do about this subject. Long story short, my choices have come down to a Suzuki 90 or either of 2 Yamahas. Yamaha has a standard 90 and a brand new 90VMAX SHO which is supposed to have more punch that the standard model. I am leaning towards the Yamana 90 VMAX SHO and would welcome any input. Fuel economy, quiet and reliability are pretty important considerations for me. I had a dealer give me a great price on the VMAX which is only a few hundred bucks more than the standard model. The VMAX weighs the same as the standard model. Thanks in advance.
