  1. Welcome Offduty5. JUST DO IT !!. I am building the Ocracoke 20 as well and with lots of customization. This is my second build after Marissa 18. Graham and Alan are very friendly and technical people and they will help for sure ! Just keep in mind that if you build the first boat it won't be the last one
  2. Hi Chris, this month was too busy at my work, just had only a few time to spare for the boat . Hope next month will find time to glue in and shape the foam on the other side . BTW your 20 is getting nice. I lice the way you covered the inside. She looks much more neath !
  3. Nice workshop with all tools needed ! Will be a nice project too ! Congratulations and good luck
  4. That's why I asked you to be your employee
  5. Thanks Robert. Better keep those clamps Chris, you might need them some day !!!!!!!!!
  6. It's time to experiment with some high density Styrofoam .
  7. Welcome JR, I do not like to work in tight spaces but think it can be done . Where there's a will there's a way . The good news is that Graham is re designing the OC family and one of the changes is the 16 deg deadrise . Don't know if these new plans are already available but its good to call Graham . He told me this when I was asking him about some changes . In this forum there is a tread started by Lance NZ. He build an OC20 very similar to what you want and she's got very nice lines and very nicely finished ! Will try to post you his link. http://messing-about.com/forums/topic/7419-okcracoke-20-in-nz/page-1?hl=ocracoke Good Luck and keep contact Lotus.
  8. Nice ! Done as it should be !
  9. Woww Fantastic !!!! Nice workshop too Do you want another employee ?
  10. Hi Tomd, the reason for these changes are because I will use this boat only in open waters so I preferred rough water performance to economy . With some help from Graham it is not so difficult for these changes . Progress is very slow on this build !! Some photo updates !. Sides planked and the boat is rolled over. I will complete the entire boat before glassing . I know that this way I have to roll it 3 times but because of some transom and sheer line modifications think this is the best way to do. Lifting strakes will be done when re flip before glassing.
  11. Congratulations Treywil !! A very nice build
  12. Side stringers and sheer are being glued. All going smooth so far , besides a couple of shattered stringers wile bending ! As you may notice the deadrise of the boat has been customized. She will have a 15.5 deg. at transom . Almost all frames , bottom stringers and the keel had been re designed ( with the help of Graham obviously ). Will also incorporate some lift strakes and a flat pad ( not sure about the flat pad or delta pad what ever they call it ! ) Any professional knowledge and recommendations are highly appreciated Soon will start the planking of the bottom !
  13. Transom keel and bottom stringers all shaped, notched and glued in. Transom area will be customized, somehow like my previous boat build Piranha that is also very similar to NZ LANCE OC20 build. Lance gave his boat a fantastic look. I rely like her lines . Next week hope to glue in the chine batten and some side stringers.
  14. Frames cut out , dabblers and keel glued and start leveling the frames on the jig. Next step is shaping the keel and laminate the transom
  15. Treywill, you have to be patience !!! I have made the same decisions you had on building Marissa and I don't regret it !. Marissa plans are more easy and straight forward to understand and put together and this will help you to get much more experience how things should be done , step by step ! You will build an OC. some day BTW your marissa is looking great ! Keep it up. Today I'll start cutting the frames ( hopefully )
  16. Lets get started ! Under the supervision of Marissa !! ( Piranha )
  17. Meester, very interesting video ! I tried this with a mixture of thinner and red stain and tested a 3 inches long tulip ( the only tulip that we can buy in our country ) and it sucked the spirit like a drunk drinker all the way trough in a couple of seconds !! This type of wood we have here is definitely not suitable for boat building Action Tiger, if you referred to my red boat, I used red real wood, that showed a very good result with the same test ! The only problem with red deal is that we can only find kiln dried wood and is very difficult to bend or twist . All solid woods here are imported from different countries for furniture use so kiln dried is preferred !
  18. Thanks for the reply . My intentions are to build the ocracoke 20 . So should I use this wood ?
  19. Is Poplar, Tulip Poplar, Yellow Poplar wood suitable for boat building instead of fir ?. I'm referring for stem, keel and side stringers . Any advantages or disadvantages on fir ??
  20. Hi all, as I sad somewhere else in this forum after one has completed his firs boat there will be an other one , other one and so on. It's an addiction !! My Piranha ( Marissa eco 18 ) is one year old now and she is giving us great time and satisfaction ! but where is that smell of fresh epoxy !! I've decided to go for the famous Ocracoke 20, and today have just received the plans from Carla, a long way to Europe !! Tomorrow study-plans and next week will go shopping Any help, suggestions, opinions and pictures are highly appreciated Hope that soon will post pictures of the progress . Regards, Lotus
  21. I have a suzuki DF60A (104kg) on my Marissa ( Piranha ) which is build heavier than the original plans because of some alterations I did . With 2 people on board, an auxiliary 22kg outboard hanging at transom and a 15" prop she gave 30.2 knots on gps at 6200 rpm. These boats are super efficient thanks to Graham designs ! In approximately a total of 1 hour at 5000 - 5500 rpm and an other 3 hours at 1500 - 2500 rpm (5 to 7 knots fishing for albacore ) she just burn 22 liters of fuel !!
