I tried it, but my plastic was too thin. You really need thick stuff, something that is wrinkle proof or at least very resistant. He suggests .030 or better. Steve

Last saturday I removed the pad of my left middle finger sheering some metal. Like an Idiot I moved my too small material to a spot where there was no clamp to hold down the metal. The piece rotated up and caught the pad of the first joint of the finger and tore a dime sized hunk right off. It hurt twice...when I went to wash it in the bathroom...the tap is full on or full off, no middle ground...and soaking it in Iodine at the hospital before bandaging. It cost me a week on mind numbing light duty at work which thankfully ends tomorrow. Sunday night I'm back to full duty (yipee!). Steve

No on the views. There is a small (3'x width) cockpit with wrap around sides and there is a removable slot top to allow sail handling. Seeing as it is cat rigged with an unstayed mast it will most likely be a Gaff, Lug or Sprit sail. Here (I hope) is the picture I was trying to post. This is more like what it will look like as the picture on the pages is of the original which was about 9 ft long. Steve

Despite the fact that I know it has too much windage, it has buttocks lines that tend to match my own and a rather chubby front end that also has a disturbing familiarity... I persist in building this rather odd design of mine. It may or may not have any practical application being a rather slow and bulky single person lake and lagoon cruiser. Still, something about this ugly duckling insists that I build it, just to see if it works. I have seen some folks with a ball on the front of their front wheel drive vehs. They use it to pull up the ramp then switch to the rear for towing. Just a suggestion. Steve (you could get one whipped up at a welding shop)

As to the Skiff America...I've seen it up close (last summer) and I wonder at its sailing abilities. It has a flat bottom with a straight run aft (actually there is a 3/4" hook to the bottom) and is clearly a planing power hull. I think the transom would suck beaucoup water. It really runs sweet with a medium power motor (25-35 hp), transitioning from disp to semi to full planning almost imperceptibly. The three that were at the messabout were cruising the lake making a good show. I kinda raced them with my little 10 ft vee bottom skiff, and while I was white knuckling it they were cruising serenely along. They told me I was doing 22 mph by their speedos so that tells you what they can do with a 25 hp!. Steve PS: No I wasn't doing 22 with the trolling motor :roll: I had a SeaHorse 9.5

I'll give it my every effort to be there. Mapquest says about 4.5 hours so I might make it after work Saturday morning or maybe take a nap and arrive sat evening. Heading for Rend Lake the next weekend, hopefully. Looking forward to a busy week!
