  1. Bill, I'm envious of your plans - I'm really interested in both places you're heading to. I'm terrible at this myself, but I'm hoping you'll post about your travels. I'm looking forward to hearing about them. Fred
  2. So Cool, Paul. Congratulations on building a great looking boat! Fred
  3. Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful reply, Graham!
  4. Hi Graham, I really enjoyed hearing about Carlita and this event. By now you've got a lot of miles on her, so I'm curious what your current thinking about foresails is. What, if any, did you use on the Texas 200 and how'd they do? Have you had a chance to do much spinnaker work? How'd it go, and did the retractable forward skeg help? Have you sailed Carlita w a staysail? Thanks! Fred
  5. Totally Love it! Can't wait to see it in the water, and bet I'll order one once I get my own boat in the water. You guys are awesome!
  6. I've been aboard Summer Breeze and agree w PAR and others that it's a great boat, and what's more, the build is really well documented. I'd buy it in a heart beat if I weren't already building a CS mk3 myself. I hope, Chick, you're just making room for the next build, and not selling for health reasons. Fred
  7. Very, very cool, but not surprised how well Carlita performed. It's impressive how high she sits in the water at 90 degrees - even w full ballast tanks. Fun to see how hard you had to pull her over w the full tanks too. Thanks Graham!
  8. Aha! There it is on the dwg - hadn't noticed the oarlock on there. Thanks for the info and good to hear that rowing is workable at that location. Glad that everyone (esp Mandy, who looks like she Loves hurricanes) is safe.
  9. Best of luck to you Graham, the B and B family, and everyone on the SE coast with the hurricane. Stay safe -- we're thinking of you.
  10. Graham, It looks like you've placed the oar lock pin ~30" aft of BH3, and have dropped it a few inches below the top of the coaming there. Are you expecting to pull the mizzen out of the way for extended rowing, or could it stay in? It seems like it might be in the way. If you'd pull the mast for serious rowing, I wonder about moving the pin even further aft, and sitting on the thwart to row? With the oar so high above the waterline, would it make sense to angle the oarlock outward? Seems like the oar could be a little shorter that way. What length oars are you using? I'm excited by so many aspects of the 17 - trailerability with a small family car being one of them. Very cool! Fred
  11. Congratulations Graham, on winning First Prize at the MASCF with Carlita! I am totally jazzed by her - such a cool boat, and such an inspiration! ( congratulations to Alan for winning big as well!) So great to see B&B get well-deserved accolades.
  12. JP, It looks to be an absolute treasure! Great work and congratulations. Fred
  13. Thanks Graham. I haven't had a chance to study this yet - but it looks great. Thanks for posting this.
  14. That is One Gorgeous Boat! Congratulations Chick! Now I'm looking forward to hearing about your sailing adventures. Fred
  15. Chick, I noticed your well doesn't extend as far fwd as Graham's does. Will your prop clear the water pretty well? I'm guessing your motor won't fold back to horizontal as it does in Steve's photo?
  16. Glad, and not surprised to hear it, Graham. Chick, it looks like your boat's going to get wet real soon. Exciting!
  17. Rann, If you're in the Seattle area or nearby, you're completely welcome to visit - just let me know. My email is fredrowley52@gmail.com. Graham, I'm wondering how you felt the forward hatch access to raising and lowering the main, reefing, and anchoring (especially emergency anchoring) worked? Were you already carrying the anchor in the cockpit?
  18. Graham, It's great to have you back, really exciting to hear about the boat, and downright electrifying to see the smokin' videos. Thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more about the CB trunk mods. Fred
  19. Thanks Chick, for the really detailed and thoughtful reply. Don't bother too much about the numbers - I'm pretty sure I can figure it out since I doubt SW has a broad range of 2-part waterborne polyurethane coatings to choose from. And thanks for your comments about spraying. I have an HVLP rig that I'd probably use if I could get a tip that would work. Good to hear you say you'd use it again.
  20. It looks absolutely beautiful, Chick. I love the color scheme. Did you say earlier you used 2-part Sherwin Williams? Could you post the part number? It sure looks like you sprayed it, did it go on pretty well? Thanks -
  21. Steve, Here's a thought. You might want to review Alan's video on setting the centerboard trunk in place and his method for checking that the sides are plumb and not racked. I glued up my trunk (CS17 mk3) on my table saw top (machined surface) and know it was flat and true, but didn't check it again (with weights and clamps in place) before gluing the module down into the hull. I suspect (I'm still not certain about this) that I may have introduced some twist in the trunk when gluing in the module. Looking good! Fred
  22. Congratulations MisterMoon, on a job incredibly well done!!
  23. Wow Graham. Each post is just so much cool stuff and interesting ideas. Now I don't regret hanging back. I'm really excited by all of it - the c'way hatch and coaming design, the portlights, the self-steering rig, etc, etc. It's really cool stuff. I'd often thought about cutting a hole through the sheer to lower the oars, but would have lacked the self-confidence to do it. Just coated my hatch covers, but it's not too late to add the reinforcement. I can't wait to see your boat in the water! Fred
  24. Thanks Chick! I don't have a motor yet, so I wouldn't know, but I'm sure you're right. I believe Graham's, mine, and one other were cut at the same time.
  25. Hi Graham, Is the stock, kit, cockpit hatch large enough to accommodate the Suzuki 2.5 hp outboard? If not, what dimensions should I use?
