I was planning on using a 3 hp light weight Johnson on my boat but I have a compression problem so I my have to reinvest ina different motor . I can not afford a new one so I am going onthe hunt wrong time of year to look for one. I may be able toget a Suzuki 6 hp but it is heavy (2 cycle) fo a reasonable price but I wonder about weight thanksk

I have used some sanding disk called autonet. made by mirka they are a open net type made in Germany I used them when we were painting at a power plant. They far outlasted 3-M and all the others we were sanding and priming the side of a gas fired boiler. When they loaded up just pull them off shake them put them back on and go. they are 6 inch rather pricey about $50.00 for a box of 50 We got them from a auto paint supply company that supplied the PPG paint we used 80 grit really cuts the rust and it will cut your boat if not carefull. I used 320 when I got ready to do the paint on the bottom

Doc did you use the side deck pieces that came in the kit. I was thinking of building a cab from the inside of the deck pieces and going up about 24 inches on the back end going down to about 12 inches at the bow end more less following the line of the deck pieces this is the first boat think I have tried I was not worried about sitting room but being able to spread out if it rained or sleeping I was thinking of going all the way to the front bulkhead I do not know if it would work or not. was going to tie the side to the inter edge of the piece running aong the side the deck fastened onto and putting a couple gussrts along the way and just a thin plywood top. Mr Bell I have wondered about a cabin since starting on the boat. I have ask Graham several times about it. He said that you had to be real carful about balance and so forth ( do not unber stand that) but any way. I have gone to home depot and gotten sheets of cardboard that comes on the top of plywood. They just crush it. I have also gotten foam board where I could mark on it and cut it with a knife. I am going to build a cabin of some sort ion my boatthat is why I cut the front bulkhead down to level of seat and added another closer to the bow. My boat is upside down now and have painted the hull and going to put the ss keel strip on next few days and then turn it back over. I have added a lot of weight I think just in excess epoxy paint and that stuff. Have to wait till kids and grand kids will help me turn it. I have gone ahead and fitted the stern like you did but have not put any deck pieces on as yet Mcdermitt

I am fast approaching the decking of my cs-17 I lack painting the floor and sides of the trunk. The decking material has all been varnished and fitted. So I want to start working on the combing. What is the preferred material. I have some 4 inch wide yellow pine that is pretty striated grained It is reouph sawn but I can get it planned to any thickness I guess If I get ti planned do I need to soak it in water for a while I want toput it in water before decking and doing the rigging and all that look for leaks and mark water line then paint the bottom since the bottom is just covered with allgrip 545 primmer Thanks Floyd McDermitt Carrollton, Ga

. I know nothing about sailing first time on a sail boat was this pass messing about. if I were ask what kind of sail configuration is used on a cs-17 are all three mast spots use ? I have added a bulkhead in front of the forward bulkhead that comes in the plans it is 20 inches from the point of the bow. it is sealed so I hope it is water tight it is 3/8 oak plywood that has been coated 4 times with epoxy them the hole area will be painted with 2 part epoxy paint. my original idea was to use it to store a anchor in the hole. can I add a tabernacle to this new bulkhead I planned on leaving if it open if it is not to deep the bottom is the same level as the board the forward mast would rest on .I want to add some sort of cabin so I can get out of weather I have cut a hole in the forward bulkhead and add a shelve so I can store some things in there I would like the cabin to go forward maybe to the new bulkhead any help would be appreciated

I spoke with Carla earlier this week she told me she was going back into the hospital (Duke Univ. I think ) for additional back operation' She said this was more serious that the first. I think they are to operate the first of the week. She said she felt that the prayers the last time is what puller her thru. She said they said there was no cure for the infection she had from the first operation and she should not be here today SO WITH THAT LETS PRAY ALL TURNS OUT GOOD AND THE SURGURY PEOPLE HAVE THE LORD DIRECTING THERE HARDS

Does the bottom paint need the be a two part epoxy type.

I need some advice on bottom paint on a cs-17 . I have glasses the bottom and primed and faired the bottom. I have been lead to believe the bottom has to be painted with two part epoxy. most a of the bottom paint I see is not listed as epoxy.the boat will be trailered and out of water most of the time. I figure the longest it would be in the water would be 3 weeks mostly fresh water maybe some salt. I would like to put it on with a roller be a hard surface and a color other than white. Iam looking for advice on brands and specific names and how maybe how to do. Thanks

Charlie I did not have running water in the building and had to carry it in milk jugs. I washed it off after I did my sanding 2 months ago and again before I started painting the first of week.and again the night before I first painted. I just poured the water over the hull and made sure it was clear or appeared clear and no dust. I poured water over it again last night before I repainted today. It was in the high 50s today when I started and reached low 60 before dark it is now 48 it was dry and seemed hard to the feel

LennieG I called the Allgrip primer guy this morn and when over what I had done his feeling was maybe some blush maybe since it was not big spots maybe to thick but was not cured since it was soft. Since it was like 46 this morn and going to go up into low 50s with some rain and no sun. He felt I could go again but let it set for two days. I did it and it is now 56 and going up he said it would cure but may take a little longed The bow section has only one coat on it what I put on today. will let you know how I come out. I could have got some primer at the plant but it was thick and is gray or clay. the hardner or cure is as thick as the resin at the end of day any cans that were open were dumped ever if they had not been mixed. I was against gray I felt it would blend in with the water. navy ships are painted gray so maybe they will not be seen
