I've found that rope ladders about the worst approuch to this issue. If you're in a panic (like having a gator eyeing your butt), these thing are difficult to climb up, to say the least. I think ladders need to be rigid and grotesquely simple, so they work when needed. The stainless tubing versions are easy to mount, easy to climb and nondescript.
