About the sails when Jake said he was putting the boat into the show but was not going to be there I recommended he not put them on. Having worked many boat shows in the past and this one being outdoors to boot it would not be wise to do so and that he should have the cabin locked up as the boat will be on the trailer. And nothing on the boat that could disappear or grow legs. Jake is going to be a very busy camper. Painting, siding, and new floors in the new house. And we all know what a fussy person Jake is and how much he just loves to paint things He is going to let me know when he is ready for them. It's no big deal. Plus the sails are far better off still on the roll then stuffed into a box for a couple of months. I will most likely drive up and deliver them and check out the boat now that I have a car that will make the trip. Have fun with the move and all Jake. I am sure we will all be waiting for updates on how all the work you have to do is going. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Jo, Just to prove I am not old I got a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird two door coupe with a 5 speed. Beats the heck out of my old broken down pickup. That's all I could afford, but I like it so far. Handles real nice and has plenty of power and my butt don't get sore after driving 25 miles either. And it goes way farther on a gallon of gas too. 8) Quote

You get out, and check to make sure you have the boat unhooked from the trailer. All the straps are off, and it should be able to float free. Well, you've never launched a boat before, so maybe it has to have more of the hull in the water. You get back into your truck, and ease on down the ramp, but the boat never floats. Stays "stuck" to the trailer, just as if you had the straps still holding her on. But they aren't. The boat should float. The crowd is now shaking their heads, and some have started to walk away. But still you back up, thinking any moment the boat will bob up, off the trailer. Water is coming over the transom now, and the boat slides off the trailer, into the water, and soon only the mast is visible above the waterline. Barry Pyeatt Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 I don't know...I think I would want my friends that had been so supportive during the construction phase to be there. But I do remember watching a friend launch his beautifully constructed river dory along with his family and friends. This was one of the nicest boats I had seen in a long time. He took his time and did it right and it was almost as pretty as Jake's Weekender. I know he was just as proud. Just before he backed it down the ramp to drop it in the first time his loudmouth brother came running up and said it had to be christened before launch. Everyone gathered around while he got the bottle of champagne out of his truck and came running back down the ramp to the boat. They said a few nice words and a nice prayer to the salmon gods. Then before anyone could stop him he swung the bottle across the bow with all his might and smashed a hole in the stem, down one side extending almost all the way to the bottom and all without breaking the bottle. I think that was the point where we had to physically restrain the builder or he would have probably used the shotgun hanging in the rack inside the truck on his brother. :x :evil: :twisted: :roll: Well...it ultimately got repaired and launched (without the family and friends this time.) And it floated just fine. My first launching was a sailing surfboard and it had a rattle from inside the sealed hull. I had closed it up with one of my fathers screwdrivers inside. :oops: But no champagne. :cry: Oh...it floated just fine and still does as far as I know some 45 years later. So I say go for it. The wife will understand. After all you are giving up all this good "stuff" in preperation for moving. Quote
