Give it some time the video is still uploading. Moorings get pulled this weekend First one in Last one out. Two dialog mistakes in the video. It's not Bear Mountain its Breakneck Ridge that all the stone for the Brooklyn Bridge was quarried from also I think I say Jan 8th not Nov. 8 once. Other than that enjoy. It took a loooooooong time to get the compression program to get all the sound to work. I had to compress it about 4 times and it takes 2hrs each time I need a better compression program than iSquint

One of my best I have to say Still uploading so it may take a bit I had to compress it a lot to get it to upload, so a lot of nice detail was lost but such is the way things have to be if you want mass exposure

Na Cpt'n she isn't ballasted, but she's heavy about 3,500 lbs and she has a weighted CB. Primary stability is awesome, but you do not want to push the secondary :shock:

Todays You Tube Joe (CSOH) video production. The first feature tonight is just RAW video of an incredibly WINDY day out on the Hudson. Many people just wanted to see the video with no music and lots of action. So thats what I did. The online weather and wind had it at 15-mph as you can see it was more like 40-mph 15 mph my A$$

Just screwing around with the video camera today. I added some music for fun. I could not edit the end of the video so when the image goes the video is over. Tell me what ya think, Kinda fun lil video. Originaly posted on the WoodenBoat Forum, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it.

I went sailing again today ........ I met the guy who publishes and takes photographs for a local magazine "Boating on The Hudson" When I got home I had these photos waiting in my email.

So once again I get home and the Army guy sent me another photo of me sailing today. He shot this photo without me knowing while I was sailing around Gees Point. And Yea I was on THE PHONE it was work related, I'm in the middle of a deal and this is my branch office. Also a very Funny thing happened out by West Point two canoe paddlers were looking at Tidbit as I made a tack across the river and past them. One paddler cups his hands and calls out JOE !!! I yell back yes, He Yells back Joe ( Cold Spring on Hudson ) !!! I say yea, now he does not look familiar. He says and that must be Tidbit. I say Yea. he says; I know cause I read The WoodenBoat Forum I don't post much though but I do read your stories. He then turns to his buddy in that " Hey see thats the guy I told you it was " I bid them adieu and sail on. Small world eh ? But I wouldn't want to have to paint it :D

That great Army guy in the Cammo diesel landing craft emailed me this one. FWIW I was on board but under the dodger and out of the frame. But it's a great shot of Phil, Walker thar dog and of course our blond with big hips, Tidbit Oh and for those that think the peak is too high, her sheets were taught when the wind is up and the peak drops just right Also that cool castle in the background is Osbourne Castle. One of the original Hudson Valley robber barons. It is said that that castle was the inspiration for the castle in the Wizard of Oz.

Preferably something prickly and hard to eradicate. Neptune tried his best today. Neptune tried to take it all away from us today. Started off wonderful. Phil & I got this great idea to sail Tidbit & Dove. Me in Dove Phil in Tidbit. 1-hr of thrill laughing and shooting John B type photos turned into a bunch of Chinese fire drills. Ending with me sailing a loosing battle with the tide and wind with wind winning over me and no motor. lost the - Leicia ( 5 years a good run ) 3 small rips in Tidbits sail, new sails next season anyway. Lots of razor sharp cotter pin slices on both my arms, I need to rigging tape them. Posting from my pub eating way to hot buffalo wings. A really great Army guy from West Point has been photographing our boats with a passion for some time now. We have become his favorite subjects. He shoots from a SUPPER Gnarly diesel camouflaged landing craft. He also helps set all the moorings. An all around great guy. After todays hard sail, I met up with him at the dock in Garrison. he asked for my email address. So even though the leica looks to be shot. I still have poperatzi shooting the gap tooth chrome dome LOL

Morning inspections. Went down first to check on Tidbit. Fine all be it dewy Warmed up the outboard and untied the lines eased out into the channel. The Hudson was like glass and the early mooring light coming through scattered drizzles created a wonderful early morning light. Heading South, with a hot coffee in one hand and the tiller in the other. Tidbit glided effortlessly at 3/4 power. Down to Garrison to check on Dove. Passing Gees point and Constitution Island One lonely trawler making way Water so calm I could let Tidbit motor alone as I go forward and look at West Point from the bow Down at Garrison you can see the dock is back above water Lonely sailor going back to his sloop on the Transient mooring. He came in last night after heavy winds and tide forced him back from Haverstraw Finally Dove resting on her lines and dry, safe and sound in her new slip I was worried since we lost power last night up on the mountain. But it was comforting to see her.

Today I officially felt like I became a sailorman Ok so here is the story. Ernesto is coming up the coast. This morning I go out to check Dove sitting out on her mooring. Pumps are working fine but they are continuously cycling, there is a significant leak some place. After not being in the water for 30 years I expected as much. So Knowing that the wind and tide are going to be unusually high and expected heavy showers I'm concerned with her out there on the hook all alone. 10:00hrs I get down and check both Tidbit and then down to Garrison to check on Dove. Take the dink out and all systems are operating the bilge pump is cycling and there is little water in the bilge. 18:00hrs I get a call from Jim Guinan - Joe your boat is listing to port and the winds are coming in hard, rain is coming down, and the tide is freaky high. The south dock is going under water. Ya might wanna come and check on yer boat. So I run and get a spare battery, an extra bilge pump, some hose, some dock line, and and a large electric sump pump with a float switch. So down to the dock I go and sure enough the tide is some of the highest I have ever seen. Way above the dock. I talk with the dock-masters son and he says there is a slip on the floating docks on the inside of the marina I could use and it has shore power for the pump. Ahhh but how to get her there. No motor, heavy rain, and strong wind. I make a mental note that the tide is still coming ion on a heavy flood. The wind is unusually coming out of the south and has let up a bit. I wade through 6 inch of water over the dock, thank God for my trusty Crock's Jump on the dingy dock and launch lil'bit. Out to Dove we row, through the rain and tide. hook up and asses the situation. She is OK but the choice is let her ride out the storm just on the remaining battery power of the one bilge pump or take advantage of the offered slip. Arrrrrg am I not a river sailorman ? I get in Dove raise the sails, asses the wind direction and tide while still on the hook. I think I can handle this maneuver says I. Unhook her and catch a nice southerly. Ease out the main and pull the mizzen in a lil'bit. bringing her stern around. then on a nice reach I make the parallel heading along the now submerged outer south dock. Starboard tack into the narrow marina opening. Once again pulling the Mizen in before the main to bring her stern around, I'm liking this ketch sailing Angle into the slip as smooth as silk. I knew I had just one shot to do it perfectly. I'm utterly amazed that anyone let alone me could sail a small boat off a mooring around a submerged dock into a narrow opening, turn and position the boat to a single slip, with nothing more that skill, wind and tide. No motor, no bow thrusters, nada. I was unbelievably proud, I felt like this one small task confirmed me as a true sailor. I cleated her off on the slip. Fixed the sump pump and plugged it in. Immediately it started to cycle. and Dove was safe from Ernesto. I walked into the Pub at Guinans with all the boys who watched me and saw their jaw drop when I explained Dove has no Motor. They all had assumed she had some form of aux power. Lots of congratulations on my sailing skills. We still have to sail her back up to Cold Spring and pull her and locate the source of the leak and repair it. But for now she is OK. Today was a good sailing day. I know Neptune will exact his revenge someday but today was not that day.

So yesterday the Skies cleared and we decided to take dove for a little spin Phil setting the sails as I went back to the car and stowed things like cellphones and wallets in my car And we are off on a little bit of a reach Looking forward while stearing by wire, Phil picks our heading Ahhhhh she finally sails say's Phil Ol Bean And what pretty sails they are On a reach she heals but not too far More sailin What thread would not be complete without a photo of the original gap toothed crome dome WE DID IT !!! Amazing 117 people have viewed this thread and only THREE had the courage to comment lol Jeff she handles well we are still letting her talk to us and tell us how she likes to be sailed. As soon as the rain breaks I will be out on her more. So far its a interesting comparison to our catboat "Tidbit" which has enormous initial stability and is like sailing a Cadillac, you never have to worry. With Dove she is a lot more tender but once she heels she has a lot of secondary stability and will stand up to a little blow. You just have to get used to the heal but once she is over she sticks and goes no further. One cool thing with a ketch is the Wing on Wing sailing. Where you have the main out on one side and the mizzen out on the other. She just sails flat with no heal, kinda cool. One very cool thing is she has a line that runs around the deck through blocks and attaches to the tiller so you can steer here from anywhere on the boat and comes in super handy when single handling her. First let me just say what an outstanding job Gambell & Hunter did on Dove's set of sails. The workmanship and details are well done. Too late and too HOT to drag the boat out and do a little driveway sailing, but I had to show you all a lil peak And no that is not just the late afternoon sun making them look that golden cream color. They really are that golden cream color. YUM A little plug for a job well done. One set of reef points more for show than reefing WHOA might be a launch this weekend

All ready for the dance she just needs her new dress. Ok yea I feel a little like a proud dad on prom night. And yea, she needs a couple more coats of varnish and little bits tweaked. Oh and all the interior seating. But damn she is starting to come together. Hurry up Gamble & Hunter we are waiting for her new dress of Egyptian dacron
