Frank Hagan Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 If you're only worried about liability insurance, you can often get a rider on your auto or home insurance policy to cover it. My insurance company covered sailboats with outboards under 10HP at no extra charge. Quote
Tom Lathrop Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 In many states, homeowner's insurance covers some liability on boats up to 26'. I have a rider added on to bring the liability up to the max covered by the home policy. Costs very little. I never have any other kind of insurance on my boats. I think other than liability insurance is a waste of money if you can build or repair your own boat. Quote
Hirilonde Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I had to buy a policy for my Renegade, it is 27 feet. I got liability and a high deductible coverage for the boat to cover complete loss. I self insure for damage as I will do all repairs myself. For small boats I agree with Tom, make sure on the liability coverage from your home owner's policy and self insure the boat. And even if you do have to fix it you save money in the long run. Quote
