Okay.  Vacation's over.  I took a few weeks off so I could attend the Texas 200 expedition, but now it's time to get the Lapwing finished.

After fabricating an aluminum backing plate, I mounted the lifting motor mount and motor.  The transom had already been reinforced for this purpose and is 7/8" thick at that spot.   That should be plenty strong for the 30 lb. Suzuki 2.5.

There's no way I could build a boat as pretty as yours. I'd just have to get that sucker wet long before it's really finished. Your attention to detail and high quality can be truly annoying to us wood butchers.

I'm tired of closeups of fine workmanship. I want to see pictures of her sailing!

John - Have you epoxy sealed the hole in the mid-ship thwart?  It looks raw in the photo.

2nd question - have you thought about using one of the fold-up rope ladders w/plastic steps for emergency boarding?  They fold compactly for storing and have a loop at the top for attaching to a cleat.  Gets the boarding steps down into the water when you have a person overboard.

John, not sure about the mast hole. Can't remember, but I'll check tomorrow.  When I get her in the water, I'll try to board over the transom. If it's too hard, I'll make/buy a rope ladder. Hopefully, I can get a foot on the step and just pop over. We'll see.

John - your just about into the water!!!!  Well done.  Progress is still slow for me - just taping up all the internal seams - but getting there slowly.  Hope to be in the water by Nov. when our sail season starts (or at least by April when it starts to get cold again.

Those internal fillets are tedious.  So, hang in there.

Working on the last few bits before launch. My sprits are now epoxy coated and painted.  (And, John Burritt, that mast hole is now epoxy coated and varnished.  Thanks!)

My friend, Bill, gave me this little whisker pole a while back and it's been sitting in my pile of boat bits.  Some polishing and white paint turned it into a nifty hiking stick.   I may put a boathook fitting on one end and have a dual-purpose stick.  Could be handy.

Not sure where you plan on putting the boathook but getting it caught in your sleeve or pants will ruin your day.  I almost capsized from the simple cork ball that some fit on commercial hiking sticks.  Death on the mainsheet in a jibe or tack too.

Beats me.  I've never owned a hiking stick.  I could definately see how it could trip up a helmsman and get in the way.
