With no killer storms overhead, I headed into the workshop this morning.  Overnight, the last mahogany lamination had been drying onto the gunwales.  All that will then remain is to build a small toe rail that will sit on top of the three laminations.  I also completed sanding the stemhead and screwed/glued it in place.

The gunwales are finally done.  Because my African mahogany hates to bend, the gunwales were constructed by laying up multiple thin strips.  You can see this in the photo below.  Now that they are glued, shaped and epoxy coated, they just need a few coats of varnish.

Lots of varnish work going on here. The stemhead, gunwales, and transom beam are in pretty good shape.

Thanks for the pics of your console John. I've thought about building something very similar for our CS20 several times, but could never commit to a final design. Seeing yours helps me think it through better. Looks nice too.

To bolt down the fore cleat, someone needed to go into the forepeak.  As it turned out, number two son, Colin, was the only team member that would fit.

She's looking great! I especially like that console design. I may have to steal the idea when I get to that part of my build. Are you putting a sealed hatch on the access to the forepeak area? If so, is it a manufactured hatch or are you building it yourself? I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of that when you get around to it.

Hi Pete,

The forepeak hatch door will be veneer-covered ply.  It will sport a pair of SS hinges and a couple of SS lockable latches.  When I get home from this work trip, mounting that door will be the first thing I'll tackle.  I'll post photos.

Then, I step the masts for the first time.  Woot!

Sorry you can't make Port Mansfield this year.  I'll see you there next year--hopefully in the Lapwing.

Yes, getting pretty close.  All that's left is the rigging and the motor mount.  I should be able to get most of that knocked out this week, but won't attempt to get her to the local lake until closer to July.  I've got a business trip next week and then the following week I'll be at the Texas 200 sailing event.  But when I get back, I should be about ready for the "ole leak test".
