CNC cut Core Sound 17

We folded up the first CNC cut kit Core Sound 17 yesterday and it went very smoothly. The side to bottom joint is dovetailed for the first 12", you might be able to make it out under the glass tape. The rest of the chine joint has notched steps so that when the wires are tied you get a perfectly fair chine line. The scarfs were all machine cut step-scarfs. We wired every other hole down the keel line before hinging the hull open and finished wiring the keel using dowels for alignment.

It is the fairest CS17 hull that I have seen.  It looks like the time invested into getting this right was worth it.  I think we are getting close to being able to offer the CS17 in kit form.  From this hull I will be able to get the cockpit plywood components to complete the plywood kit files.

Very cool, Graham!  Congratulations on getting the CNC all figured out.  It will be nice to have all the seat and panel shapes included in a kit.  We all had to develop those ourselves.  I like the way to chines fit together like a puzzle.  Hope that you sell a ton of kits!

That interlocking edge is going to make even the most experienced builder consider the kit over just plans.  My best to you Graham in getting the various kits programmed and running.

Absolutely! It's a little cool and it is very busy getting ready for Christmas, so we haven't been out lately.

We hope to get out in the new year and explore a lot more.

Hello, I'm building a Spindrift 9N.

So far I love the plans and the CD really helps to show the little tricks involved.

If you have recently purchased a CNC machine may I recomend that you start selling templates for your designs? I plan to build an i550 sportsboat after I finish the S9N and the person that sells the plans also sells precut kits you can buy. Now, since I like the smell of freshcut wood I don't intend to buy the kit, however the builder also sells a "template pack" made from plastic Tyvek building material. (the stuff they wrap lumber and houses with) He says you just put the templates on the ply and pin it with thumbtacks. Then spray paint, or "fog" the perimeter. He has the bulkhead dimensions marked on the plastic for you. Then when the paint cures,Voila! Perfectly lofted and ready to cut.

Hope this helps. I'm going out to the garage to rip the wood for my centerboard, and join my sheets of ply so that I can do my lofting this weekend.
