  1. There are several Dana 24's on www.yachtworld.com right now in the $50,000. range. Strong boats no doubt.......
  2. That seems like way too much horsepower for a displacement hulled sailboat? Could you still get power-tilt with a 10hp outboard?
  3. So the centerboard will have an uphaul and a downhaul? Will you run a VHF antenna on the top of one of the masts? If so which one and why?
  4. Speaking of details, how will the centerboard line (lines?) be lead? Will you be able to control it from the cockpit?
  5. Not that she's my boat, but here are my thoughts on an interior: v-berth with removable insert forward, followed by a 6' settee to Starbord, 4 1/2' settee to Port, just aft of the Port settee is a small nav station facing athwartship with space for a laptop, aft of the nav station is an enclosed head with shower. (the head has a teak grate you can flip down over it so you can take a shower sitting down without slipping!) Aft of the Starbord settee is the L-shaped Galley, complete with a woodburning stove/heater. Definately an inboard Diesel, with an engine compartment so well insulated you can happily sleep in the v-berth and barely hear it. But that's just me. Hah! Looking very good Sir, thank you so much for documenting your build. It helps us rookies figure out things even if we won't build that exact design. So far I have only built a Spindrift 9N that isn't even launched yet, but I have the boatbuilding bug for sure!
  6. Looking good! May I ask why you are calling her the P28"R" now? Is hull #1 going to be a race version?
  7. Bump! This thread was getting too close to page three.......
  8. Thank you for the response. I assume she will have the kick-up rudder? Sure looks like you will be able to do some serious gunkholing in her. Good luck with the build and don't stress yourself with artificial timelines. It loooks great so far. Do you know if Graham is waiting for your build to be finished before he offers the plans to the public? If that's the case disregard what I said about artificial timelines. Hurry up and finish that build! (just kidding. sort of.......) Andy Greever
  9. May I ask how much tankage you plan to have, and where it will be located? I see the fuel tank behind the engine in the plans, but what about the freshwater and holding tanks? Will you have an enclosed head? Sure looks like a perfect Great Loop boat to me. I see her as being very fuel efficient, and with the ability to drop the masts fairly easily is a huge bonus. Will you use metal ports, or plastic to keep the weight down? I can't wait to see more of your build progress..... Andy Greever
  10. I had the same issue with my Spindrift 9N plans #685. Caused a bit of head scratching but I figured it out.......
  11. Hello, I'm building a Spindrift 9N. So far I love the plans and the CD really helps to show the little tricks involved. If you have recently purchased a CNC machine may I recomend that you start selling templates for your designs? I plan to build an i550 sportsboat after I finish the S9N and the person that sells the plans also sells precut kits you can buy. Now, since I like the smell of freshcut wood I don't intend to buy the kit, however the builder also sells a "template pack" made from plastic Tyvek building material. (the stuff they wrap lumber and houses with) He says you just put the templates on the ply and pin it with thumbtacks. Then spray paint, or "fog" the perimeter. He has the bulkhead dimensions marked on the plastic for you. Then when the paint cures,Voila! Perfectly lofted and ready to cut. Hope this helps. I'm going out to the garage to rip the wood for my centerboard, and join my sheets of ply so that I can do my lofting this weekend. Happy Holidays everyone!
