Micro Trawler sees the light of day

Well, it was a warm sunny day in Northern Wisconsin, and the Micro Trawler Someday left the safety of the garage today. It went well. Not too bad, no major wounds. It was a close shave, but it DID get out the door without having to remove any trim. Here are a couple photos of the big event.

Blacksmith mate... WELL DONE!! I reckon you and your family will have a ball... how long till launch you reckon?... mmm the young fella? mate have a small word to him about the potential loss of grandchildren hes lookin at not supplying you by standing spread eagled over the tow rope

Glad it came out without damage to either the paintwork or the trim well done again

On another note I havent been on the forum for awhile taking an self imposed exile sabbatical thing... but to see this post with 146 views after 5 days and none of you have said anything? SHAME!! no seriously shame on the lot of you

Blacksmith goes to the effort and trouble to post some pictures of his build and after 146 view NO ONE says well done?? Shamefull... sure its not a weekender or a vactioner or even a pilot boat but it is a boat and hes built it and wants to share that journey with everyone the least you can do is say "well done mate" you know a bit of friendliness a tad of encouragement and who knows even more people may just post their builds here.

No offence meant Frank or anyone else but 146 views means that at the least 100 forumites have look at Blacksmiths pictures 100!! MINIMUM thats saying at worst that HE himself looked in 46 times since he posted it not likely but being overly generous possible... I find it hard to believe that this forum has changed so much in the months Ive been of the forum that someone can post this sort of thread and none of you say a word... was a time a thread like this one would envoke a raft of comments and responses some favorable some not so some questioning some just saying well done... seems its changed eh... as I said shamefull

ah well I reckon its a damned fine looking Micro Trawler mate so good on you! Have a flamin ball regardless of what anyone may or may not think!

It is a fine looking boat, and there's another thread on it where Blacksmith has to figure out the displacement for his registration (he modified the plans by adding some length). So I think our regulars are oogling his boat and discussing it in that thread.

(And it has been a bit slow around here ... but I've been neglecting things. I've been busy with a job search, always best done before your job actually goes away, so if any of you know of a manufacturing company that needs a well-used Director of Customer Services, let me know. I have about a year before I have to make some hard decisions.)

No worries Frank... just grabbed me as rather unusual and well not the same sort of response that was the norm when I used to come more often

As to the job... well having just recently been told my mining career as at a sudden and total end Im in the same boat so to speak presently researching options and direction

I know that most folks here are building sail boats, and mine is not. But I need to share, and the people on this site have been VERY kind to me and to my daughter Emily. I am just glad when people look at the photos of the Micro Trawler A sail boat is not really an option for us due to some medical/physical issues, but that is not a big deal. What is a big deal is that we have been encouraged and supported by you, and that means a lot.

We are planning a launch on Saturday the 26th of May at a local park, with burgers and potato salad. Nothing real big, just fun. And I will be posting photos of that event as well.

Thanks to all who look at the photos of the Micro Trawler, and the Pram that Emily built!

Strewth mate I hope youve put roller blades or a couple of dozen skate boards under it... a boat like her skiddin over grass wouldnt be a good thing eh? :cry: ... there IS a lake there isnt there? a river even? you know some WATER!! :shock: man launching in a park amazing!!

Dingo, Thats what the burgers are for! I hear they help the boat slip right along!

Actually, the county park is on Lyman Lake, right next to the boat launch, so we can launch, give ride (if it floats) and have a bit of a party. Any of you feel like a road trip, let me know, you can sure join us!

I hung the motor on last night, now I need to balance the trailer and get those hull plates on. I am being slowed down some as our oldest daughter and son-in-law graduate from college next week, and they want us there. Strange kids! I will be in Doc's part of the world, and wish the boat was all done so I could bring it along. There is the lake called Cave Run that looks like it would be a fun one to be on.

I've been remiss on my congrats also (thanks for metioning it Dingo) - When I saw the pictures of the boat exiting the shop I immediately went looking for your other posts to get a second look at the interior pictures you posted. I hope you'll share pictures of the launch and beyond also. That looks like a fun boat.

I am a little jealous too. The further along I get in the building process the more respect I have for anyone who has actually "finished" a boat!

Good luck on your launch Blacksmith. You have some beautiful boating spots to chose from. I spent some time fishing in the Hayward area a few years back. I think thats not too far from where you are?

Any chance you will take the new boat out on Superior after the shakedown cruise?

Joel, I am about an hour from the Hayward area, and about ten miles from the big lake. One of the reasons I chose this boat to build was Lake Superior. I am not planning on going all over, but do want to fish the bays, and troll for a lake trout or two. I also wanted to be able to trailer the boat for days like yesterday, strong winds, 6 to 8 foot seas, and small craft warnings. I will not be on the big lake then, but will head to an inland one for some fishing and camping.

I am for sure going to post some photos of the launch!

Now that I have read what you are intending to do with the Micro-Trawler and realized where you are intending to do it, I have a better appreciation for the boat. I like the concept. While not for me, it is a good idea and I am sure you will spend many hours enjoying her.

As I looked at your pictures of the extraction from the garage I marveled at the close fit. It appears you took advantage of every inch available to you without having to take a wall out to get her out. Bravo!

Good job on the construction and best of luck on the launching. When I read Dingo's post, I had to laugh at the picture he presented with his discussion of how she would move on the grass. I just knew you had some water on which to put her.

Bill, thanks for the invite. and yes I am going to try. Health and $3 bucks a gallon for gas my make this a no go for me, but we shall see.

Steve, my wife, on more than one occasion, asked if it was going to fit out the door. I ALWAYS said "Of course" the whole time hoping I had not made a mistake in the measurements! I had a total of about 3" to work with getting it out, which is why I opted to use the come along rather than hooking to the trailer hitch and pulling.
