I am starting to bundle up to go build shelving in the shed.....brrrrr. I am just putting it off. :morning: Only two gallons of kerosene left in the shop.... Quote

That bay wind cuts like a knife. I rigged up a tarp...it sort of worked...until the wind took it and me for a ride. Towing does sound like a GOOD idea, doesn't it? Stay healthy, Charlie Quote
Charlie Jones Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Laura isn't looking forward to the towing, cause SHE gets to drive the towed vehicle. no power brakes and no power steering ya know!! We towed it home last night from the grocery where it had died, thinking it had a bad fuel pump, but once I could look at it today I find no spark. And we just had the entire distributor rebuilt a year ago- truck did the same thing- just died. THAT time we towed it 120 miles back getting back at about 0200. Laura was NOT pleased. And isn't now either. My little red (and rust) S 10 does a great job pulling though:) And yeah- that north east wind is coming straight off the bay, 1/4 mile away. Quote

I usually don't put the blower on the tractor until Christmas but with something approaching 20" of snow since Friday and no relief in sight I guess it's time. The driveway is closed to 2 wheel drive vehicles. Had to pull the UPS driver down it Friday afternoon. Will build a fire in the shop and by the time I'm finished with the bl owing it will be a balmy 50* or so in there. Quote
barryhill Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 This was taken out my friend's cabin door yesterday (Monday) morning. It's just a bit south of Blacksmith. The lake froze over this week and forecast "flurries" covered the ground Sunday night. An inch or two forecast for tonight. The bare ground froze well ahead of the snow so no problem getting out with 2 wheel yet. Still brown and open water here on Lake Pepin. Quote

Christmas time we look forward to 35+C on the coast and inland where I live 40+ is common in the dead of summer. Snow is restricted to the sub-antartic wastes of Victoria in the southern parts of Oz - the best we get here is the odd frost in winter - so believe me i'll be envying you your white stuff soon! I'll have to learn how to post pics so I can keep you all inspired through the winter - or do you sail ice boats then? Quote

I think it has gotten much colder there since you posted this? I stopped working on the shed when we dropped into the single digits.....must hibernate....cannot move......dreaming of summer and heat. Charlie Jones Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Towed the truck in- 500 bucks later it's running again BUT I need to pull a head and fix a bad valve. Problem was, I left my blasted tool box sitting in the garage up close to Lufkin, so I would have to work bare handed- I AIN'T that good So yesterday I did a 600 mile round trip from here up to the farm, picked up the tool box and turned it for home. YUCK!!! Eleven hours looking through the windshield. On the other hand, it isn't that cold here by any means- only 40 now BUT- An hour ago it was SLEETING!!! On Matagorda Bay!!! 3rd time we've seen sleet here in 14 years here. Last year we didn't even have a frost. I guess the last bunch of bananas on the tree are gonna turn black now and die, instead of getting ripe. Durn it!!! DAMN I hate cold!!! Quote
