went down to the "local" copy shop and reduced the size of the full sized frame plans to 1/4 scale. 8) Boy, this is going to be really cool looking when I get done. Big

the sheets were too wide even for their oversized copier so I had to fold the plans and do half at a time. When I got home it was cut and paste.

Here is a shot of the rebuced plans. They were 4' X8'.

Hey Stump

4X8  So thats why you wanted that 1 cylinder diesel  . One helpful hint if your using bass or balsa wood. Go to Rite-aid or Walgreens and buy a few of their foam padded fingernail files. Different grits on both sides 8) . Makes sanding a breeze! For glueing try white, "Tacki -Glue" glue, real short set time.

Ok guys, as I sit here and ponder these "reduced" plans I'm beginning to think perhaps I need to lower the scale some more. I think I'll see what 1/8 looks like.

This was not supposed to be a kids boat.

All things are possible if you only believe. including you. Remember your throway? :P Just look at you now.

My concern is if you go much smaller than 1/4 scale that you won't have a real feel for the steps and the challenges that you will face in building the full sized one. Also, the majority of the parts will be so small that you will have trouble fabricating them and the stock will end up being too thin. Yes, it will be a big model. But as a learning tool it would be invaluable. You won't need a trailer to handle it, it will fit in the back of your pickup on a rack for hauling. But then that is just my feelings on the matter. It is your project and I'm just trying to be helpful.

Two channel radio will be enough unless you want working lights, etc. And besides you wanted to know what to do with your Great White trolling motor.

So I spent all day thinking about the size of the model. I compared the two sizes, thought about the pros and cons of each.

SWMBO wondered what was up... so I told her.... :?

I will be building the 1/8th scale size. I've been married 23 years...

Below in some type of order arranged by chance are: The sagging plan table. The braced table. The brace. A shot of my "shop," that used to be my daughters bedroom. And the size of the 1/8 compared to the 1/4.

If you guys and gals don't mind I would kind of like to go through this whole process with you all.

...  and if the above is OK how do I make the pictures I take come out better, these are lousy.

Stump,

3 things:

1) Very impressive what that bedroom has turned into. I like the idea. I am thinking that Sam & Ben would probably like to sleep in tents in the ravine year round, thus freeing up more "shop" space. Now to sell their Mom.

2) What are you taking the pics with. It looks like a resolution problem to me.

3) Whether it is 1/8 or 1/4 scale does not change that it could later be used for a kid's toy. I would enjoy playing with it either way.

Thanks,

Greg.

Are you resizing the pictures? It looks like you have them smaller than the thumbnail images, so the software on the forums resizes it to match the thumbnail. I haven't figured out a way to have it just post images that are smaller than the thumbnail size.

400 x 300 pixels, or something like 4 x 3 inches if your software works that way, works well for the forums. The reduced thumbnail is still clear, and people can click on it for the larger pic.

Frank -- the sofware on the forum resizes? Every time I try to post a picture right out of my files, the forum simply rejects it as too big and then I have to go and cut and fit and loose stuff to get something on. I must be missing something.

Stump see if you can change the file size on the menu options on the camera. I set mine at 1600, normal quality, then resize with photoshop. What imaging software are you using?

Only photoshop stuff I have is easy thumbnail and what ever came with the viewer of XP.

cut the stem and the double breasthooks. Plotted the transom and the 1st frame on the building surface.

Glad to see you get started 8) I take it at 1/8 scale? Are you keeping all materials to the same 1/8 scale?

On the photos, open them in whatever software you dwnload them from the camera with. Look in the top tool bar for (image size) it could be in edit, options, image, tools,ect... Then resize to Franks' recomds. 400x300@ 72 dpi, the ones you have posted are +/- 200x150@72dpi. If they're still fuzzy you may have a setting on the camera wrong. Do you have any menu options on the camera to set the (file) size or a slide or button on the side or top for up close and far-away shots? BTW there's always the throw it up against the wall adjustment.
