Boomcrutch

Hello All. Has anybody got any hot tips on a boom crutch? I am going to build something to lay my mast and boom on. I thought I would try to build something that looked a little better than the fold up plastic saw horse I am using now. Y'ALL COME Cap'N Bud.

Bud, I did a wooden sawhorse sort of thing that sits on the seats. I made it from lumber from the building dolly when I was finished with it. I milled all the 2x lumber down and it looks pretty nice. Is that something you'd be interested in?

Hellow Bud, I made my boom crutch out of three quarter inch piece of plywood it is 1 foot wide by 3 feet tall with a half circle cut out of the bottom side of the plywood and it sits behind the gap on the steering and lazeret. The plywood sits ontop of the steering wheel shaft with the half circle cut out so it doesnt slide from side to side. the top is cut out like a U to hold the mast when its down. Ill post a pic as soon as possible.

Hi Bud,

Having not had a boom crutch last year, I recently whipped on eup from some scrap treated pine I had floating around.

mine open witha scossor type action, with a strap across the bottom to limit opening, and it is small enough to fit into the locker under the seat.

I don't think that I have any pictures of my boom crutch but it is very simple. A solid piece of Mahogany with a small cleat on the base. The cleat slips under the taffrail. I tie it in place with webbing. Small enough that it stowes easily.
